"bias against conventional families and anti-Christian bigotry."

I really don't see it here. The reason I say that is because it never seemed to matter who was involved, what their background was, or what, if any, religion they practiced. All were hunted equally in the 1980s. This is the sort of hysterical reaction and unprofessional handling that accompanies anything having to do with child molestation or the devil (satanic cults, etc). The investigators will pound the "truth" out of anyone they think is involved and will interrogate even children for hours and hours at a time, day after day until they start hearing what they want to hear. I don't think this is anti-religious, I think this is anti-common sense and contrary to what past experience with these situations has taught law enforcement. My point is that they'd happily toss an atheist in jail just as quick as anyone else if they could pound some "confessions" out of kids with whom the person comes into contact regularly. It doesn't make the whole situation any less ridiculous or tragic.

While I found your response very courteous thoughtful, to me, it lacks the necessary first-hand familiarity with, particularly Canadian, so-called "Children's Aid Societies".

While these outfits suck up public funding like there's no tomorrow, they are plainly the most secretive, leftist agenda-driven and thoroughly unaccountable bodies I've ever encountered. If you can get into one of their offices - and many have prison-style security in place precisely because they're in the business of destroying families - you're very likely to find all sorts of pro radical feminist and militant homosexual propaganda prominently displayed.

Within the past year, these bodies along with a host of their fellow travelers - every one publicly-funded - went all the way to Canada's Supreme Court attempting to have the law which permits "reasonable" parental physical disipline of children struck from the books. Yet, every opinion poll I've ever seen taken on this subject puts support for "reasonable" corporal punishment of children by parents at something in excess of 70% of the general population. And this is just one example of the elitist, big brother knows best, anti-family mindset of these would-be social-engineers.

Numerous children die every year of various forms of abuse while under their watchful care but none of their "workers" has ever been found negligent by any Canadian Court.*

One social worker whom a civil Court ruled had openly lied to side with an abusive mother and to deny a father access to his children, and thusly compelled to resign this position, was promptly hired anew by yet another of these shameless outfits! (full documentaion available)

* Just search FR for either the author above or "Christie Blatchford" and you should find their coverage of some of the more appalling related inquests.
