Was it back in 1984 that ABC had a made for TV drama flick about the US getting hit with nuclear weapons? It showed American cities leveled and people dying from radiation sickness. It was at the height of the Rats including JF'nK, pushing for unilateral nuclear disarmament (nuclear freeze they called it). The film was a direct slap at Reagan's defense policy and designed to scare the hell out of voters. It failed miserably in doing that.
Just more of Hollywood's mutual masturbation propaganda.

I really think "The Alamo" was a pretty decent movie, the PC parts were very subtle and didn't get in the way of the plot. But Dennis Quaid's rendering of Sam Houston was not convincing and pulled the whole movie down. He just can't act!! Billy Bob was a surprise!! He was quite good and convincing.
I saw it during it's second week with a total of seven others in the theater.

Remember that TV movie back in the 80's - The Day After. I think it was about a massive nuclear war or accident. All I remember was the party I went to called The Night Before The Day After. This must be the sequel. That was actually a good film. I have it on VHS and am still waiting for them to release it on DVD
Of course I also have a copy of "Special Report" where eco freaks detonate an improvised nuclear device in a South Carolina coastal city

More Roland Emmerich cine-garbage. From the promos I gathered that it's just Independence Day without the aliens. Most people who'll see this dribble will get drawn in like a moth to the flame by the special effects, not realizing that they're about to be propagandized by this environut. Funny thing is on their website they give this lecture about how we all need to save the earth by preserving the ozone layer and in the same breath stating how the making of this movie was causing the global warming we are all suppose to dread.

"follows the onset of a new Ice Age just three days after the polar ice caps melt " ????? Growing bodies of research suggest that global warming can be linked to the onset of an ice age. This may seem contradictory, but this research seems pretty solid. Note: This research can be solid without making any judgement about whether global warming is occurring at the moment, whether it is human-caused, and whether we can or should do anything about it.
The basic idea is that increasing temperatures cause glacial melt. That in turn causes a rise in the ocean level, and an increased surface area for the ocean. The albedo of water is higher than that of the ground, so more sunlight is reflected back into space, cooling the planet. This, incidentally, is how most things in weather (and nature) work - through negative feedback. Something (warming) causes an effect (rise in ocean levels) that mitigates the original cause.
Now, the problem is that, in weather at least, there is one big example of positive feedback - snow. Snow has a high albedo, and it only falls when it is cold. So - cold, brings about snow, which keeps things cooler, and can cause more snow. That's the root cause of Ice Ages.
If we combine a winter with increased ocean surface area, we find that a summer may not be enough to melt all the snow. If snow can stay on the ground year round, we have the beginnings of an ice age.
Evidence seems to support this, in that we appear to have gone through some periods of great warmth immediately preceding ice ages. However, that evidence can't be given huge weight, because at 40,000+ years, centuries can slide together. But, when we combine that evidence with some of the new models, it starts to look pretty convincing.
Of course, it happening in days - as this movie would have it - is ridiculous.
