A bill is being considered in the state Assembly to allow police to stop vehicles if a minor appears to be exposed to smoke from a pipe, cigar, cigarette, or "any other plant."Some folks in Sacramento have too much time on their hands.

If this bill ever passes I would suggest that children ride in the trunk. Or just strap 'em to the hood of the car.

And once they pass the smoking-in-the-car-with-kids bill, then they'll go after anyone who smokes in their own home.
California: tanned totalitarianism.

What we see here is nothing new. This is the old "progressive" ban-your-way-to-paradise Puritanism which flared up a century ago and brought us Prohibition. Notice how feminism and prohibitionism seem to go hand in hand?
Now here's a little ditty from Prohibition days:
We never eat cookies because they have yeast
And one little bite turns a man to a beast.
Oh, can you imagine a sadder disgrace
than a man in the gutter with crumbs on his face?
We never eat fruitcakes because they have rum
And one little bite turns a man to a bum.
Oh, can you imagine a sorrier sight
Than a man eating fruitcake until he gets tight?
Away, away with rum by gum, rum by gum, rum by gum.
Away, away with rum by gum, rum by gum, rum by gum.
Away, away with rum.
(And we all know how successful this project was.)
Yup, there are lots of sunnybeaches in 'ol sunny SoCal.

Saw this in the elevator going to the garage in a building owned by a major Cali law firm in Mountain View: "No smoking in the garage or in cars while in the garage". Talk about paranoid!

What if the kids smoke but the parents dont and we are all in the same car now what?

The bill has the support of the American Lung Association, which points to research showing secondhand smoke can cause cancer, respiratory infections and asthma. I would love to see that research.
I can't believe they are still spewing out the old lie about SHS CAUSING asthma.
I really don't understand how they can get away with retelling the same old liew time after time after time.........oh, I forgot they've got the lamestream media so brainwashed they will believe anything and the sheeple follow along blindly.

It was in the news earlier this week that the Kansas legislature is wringing their hands because the tax income from cigarette sales was WAY down. Imagine that. They want the people to quit smoking so they raise the tax and when smokers quit they whine because taxes are down. Are their colors showing or what?

they want to do the same thing here in New York

Why not ban driving with children in a car. Exhaust fumes are much more a health thtreat than cigarette smoke. If we want to 'protect' our children & the children of others (and the world) we should prohibit the use of the internal combustion engine any where/any time.

Boy, with all of the smoking laws that Kalifornia continues to enact they just may need to hire about 100,000 new cops just to keep those violent smokers in line.
Next: Kalifornia considers bill to ban smoking in homes.
The frog continues to boil.

Even with the windows down? wow they would have had heart failure in Europe then. I was in the smoking car with all the chain smoking Italians and there were young kids running around *LOL* You could tell the Americans by the horrified looks on their faces.

If this becomes law it might be worth the investement of of a couple of child car seats and a couple of little dummies.

to allow police to stop vehicles if a minor appears to be exposed to smoke I think this is the point where I would lose it and go over the edge. . . and do something to put me in prison or six feet under.

My car is my castle. Period. That law would not be worthy of being followed by me. (I rarely smoke a cigar in my car, but it's the principle)

Why don't they also double traffic fines for cars with children in them?
How many times have you seen speeders or other reckless drivers with children in the car? How about people making illegal right turns with children in the car, or rolling through stop signs with children in the car, or running yellow lights with children in the car?
