I have to ask this question.......
What would have been the damage if the timer had not gone off early?
If the container had already been loaded on a ship, would it still be a small "happening"?

10 miles away; didn't hear a thing.I'm in Wilmington. The article said the explosion was at Berth 136. I don't know if that's San Pedro, Wilmington, Long Beach, or what.
More worried about Fox 11's 10 pm breaking news about the terrorist warning for Westwood area malls tomorrow. Does anyone know where they got this threat?
I haven't heard anything yet.

Container scheduled for shipment blows up in LA portHowever, the container was set to be placed on a ship just below a container that had hazardous materials inside, Arian said.
"If the explosion had happened after the hazardous cargo container had been placed on top, we might have had toxic materials blanketing the longshore workers and floating all over Wilmington and San Pedro," he said.
The container was set to be loaded on the ship The Micronesian Heritage, which was picking up 74 containers en route to Samoa and other pacific ports.

Arian said the explosion shows that security at the port complex is not as tight as it should be.

If the container had already been loaded on a ship, would it still be a small "happening"? given that we didn't read about any fire,or the truck itself being destroyed, and strictly as a SWAG, I'd say yes.

My friend who works at Maersk called me yesterday about this. She said that the rumor was that the explosion may have been caused by aerosol cans inside a hot container. I'll bet the poor guy driving the UTR had to change his shorts soon after the blast!

Ford Pintos blow up better than that.

For some reason I don't think aerosol can could rip apart that trailer.
It looks like a good size explosion went off in that trailer.

Keep digging Watson.I'm shoveling it out faster than a politician at a fundraising event.

Yeah- looks like a non-chemical "explosion"- pressurised containers or some such.
