I printed this article out today, and passed it around the squadron. Without exception, everyone thought it was a fun and entertaining thing to read. It lifted a LOT of spirits.
A few notes, from those who saw it...
- A Lieutenant Commander demanded his own copy, to bring home to show his wife (followed by three more for the same reason)
- A group of six young Enlisted Aircrewmen immediately formed a "recon squad" to "detect, identify, and attempt to gain and maintain contact" with any "battalion" operating in the Maine-New Hampshire area. Their first mission commences Friday evening at liberty call.
- A female Lieutenant (unmarried, but shopping) was pleased to see (from the article) that gentlemen might also, in the future, join the battalions. She requested updates.
- Four young female Aircremen seconded that request, with prejudice.
- One In-flight Technician (IFT), asked by your humble correspondent how he'd feel knowing that the women were "acting out of patriotism, rather than real attraction for you?", replied, "Who the Hell cares? Where do I find them?!?". His sentiments were echoed loudly.
All in all, no negative sentiments were expressed by anyone who saw it. Ranks ranged from E-3 to O-4, and included Aircrew, groundpounders, pilots, and NFO's. One guy summed it up thus: "I don't know how true this is, but it OUGHTTA be! Even if it ain't, it sure brightened up the mornin'!"

Sounds familiar to this former Army artillery type.
Had a guy during Basic and AIT at Fort Sill who was a Mormon.
We called him 'Saint' as his platoon nickname, since it fit.
He was an excellent soldier, and astand up guy.
Not sure where he is now, if I remember correctly, his first duty station was South Korea.
Mine was 'Fort Livingroom' as National Guardsmen were said to report to.
*chuckle*
I've seen both types and the mixes in betwen that you describe, albeit my stay in uniform was alot less than ten years.
"The Puritan and the Barbarian...can any force stand against BOTH, allied as one?"
Nope, nothing can stand for long in the face of that.
Stay sharp, stay (relatively) safe, and know that we're behind you while you're out there.

Any decent man deserves better than these ho's, certainly our fighting men do. Once again because all our fighting men are monks who would never dream of sex before marriage or sex for fun, right?

Thanks for the ping and the laugh Sarge!!
LOL Long Cut!!
There was a thread on FR while back and a vet was talking about the soldiers getting letters from ladies they didn't know while in the service. He said the farther north the postmark was, the more likely there would be something in the letter showing them just exactly WHAT they were fighting for! He he he!!

Thanks for the update.
Nice to know that the operational end of the US military establishment is still the same bunch of lovable rogues I left behind in 1991.

"Any decent man deserves better than these ho's, certainly our fighting men do." Like the man said in Unforgiven..."DESERVE'S got nothin' to do with it!"
Our fighting men are more than able to determine for themselves what they "deserve".

Our fighting men are more than able to determine for themselves what they "deserve". No, no they cannot. Clearly they need the American version of the Saudi Vice and Virtue Police to tell them what they should and should not be doing. < /sarcasm>
