Just curious about something. Was he a college graduate? And if so, why wasn't he an officer?

Tillman is a hero... But so are every man and woman in Iraq and Afghanistan. The fact that he was an athlete does not make his family's sacrifice any greater than any others who have lost a hero. This is a great thing, but only if it brings attention to all of the heros we have lost, and all of those who are still alive, and fighting for our freedom.

I think Pat wanted to enter as a grunt and go through Ranger School.
He graduated summa cum laude as an Academic All American with a 3.83 GPA while playing in the Rose Bowl at Arizona State.

If you know or hear of any details on this, could you please post. My wife and I would like to attend if possible. Thanks.

I agree wholehartedly, Pat is the guy to put a face on all of them and a reminder not to forget.

Sorry folks, but the Pat Tillman adulation, just like the Jessica Lynch frenzy is driving me nuts.
Both of them should be honored, but if I was the parent of one of the anonymous, barely mentioned in the press, kids that was injured or killed, I would be deeply saddened by all of this.
Enough is enough.

He's an impressive indvidual in many ways. From the sories I've heard on sports radio, he was disillusioned with the pro sports scene because of all the dishonesty and slimy deals.
He was a straight shooter, and demanded the same of the people he was around, so he joined the military. A role model.

What struck me was his basic training graduation photo, where he was carrying the flag. I didn't recognize the man at first and thought it was odd that Drudge would use a generic military photo on his web page connected to such a big story.
Moments later I realized that the photo of the man in the green dress uniform was Tillman. His long hair and professionally shot and edited photos were given up for a life where you are one among many working for something much greater than yourself, reflected all at once with that parade photograph.
What really made me choak up at that moment was the fact that not only are there many, many brave men AND women who have done the same as Tillman but that he does, in a way, represent all of them.

You Sir, are stepping out of line.

I am glad to see that SI put him on the cover. Pat Tillman represented everything that is good about the USA. Every time I see a U.S. service man or woman in uniform, I have the feeling of admiration and respect. I also feel that we need to do everything we can to keep Kerry and any other f*cking RATS out of office! We can't betray our heroes in uniform.

No, I think the reverence for Tillman will prevent the Vietnam treatment of the soldiers coming home. It is a test for America and America passed-- our grief for Tillman shows the avegrage soldier that the people are with them and it also boosts morale. A guy who didn't have to laid his life down, that shows that despites the Left's best efforts that most GIs are there for patriotism. Tillman is a wonderful example of voluntary sacrifice for America. The Left and the whiners in the ranks just had their hands weakened with the untimely, tragic death of Pat Tillman.

Even at Arizona State, his teammates knew he was special.
His team nickname 'Brave Heart'

He was(in fact he graduated with honors). Apparently he wanted to keep a low profile - he felt that any special treatment (and he considered entering as an officer among that) would single him out from others and that is not what he wanted.

Pat Tillman reminds me that we have heroes in our Armed Services. Honoring Tillman doesn't dishoner the rest. It serves as a reminder of the quality and integrity of our people in the military. They are all heroes.
