The argument that broadcasting calls to prayer on loudspeakers is the Islamic tradition is inaccurate on its face, considering loudspeakers have only been around for, arguably, 70 years. As best I understand it, Islam did just fine for itself in the 13 centuries before the invention of loudspeakers.
And besides all that, do devout muslims, the ones who actually attend mosque, really need someone to tell them when to come to prayer? None of them has a watch...?
I just don't understand how this minority's right to make a racket as they freely practice their religion trumps the larger community's right not to be bothered by it.
