It's very hard to come back from a negative perception of character. Clinton could do it because things were going pretty well, and he's a great politician (as in a great salesman). Kerry is no Clinton in that regard.

Clinton never came back from it. He never had too. From day one in the primaries the voters saw him as a low life, lying, typical politican of the lowest order. The 1992 primary was originally billed as "The race to lose to George Bush." He was seen as invincible and then it all fell apart.

People never had a high opinion of Clinton the man.
