Yes, as long as the dem doesn't have a pro-gun rating better than Toomey. Huh? Rectify that with YOUR TAGLINE. I mean, how do you vote for a pro-gun Demo, if there is such a thing, based on your comment?
This is what I mean about taking your ball and going home because of some obvious pride-issues, or should I say "take your magic bullets" and go home.

Toomey is not an unknown. He's pro-gun as well, even more so than Spectre, in my humble opinion.
Spectre and his liberal views sounds like he would sell gun-owners more readily than Toomey would. Sure, he's an incumbent, and he has seniority in the Senate, but would that seniority work towards our goals? I doubt he would fight to put conservative pro-2A judges on the bench.

Gee, that is so big of you. You must be one of those compassionate conservatives that I hear so much about.

But you don't trust him on something vastly less significant, which is his endorsement of a candidate? His voting record is solid. His endorsement record is much less so.
Shalom.

Thanks for the reply.
I have read Stephen Hawkings books and other books on cosmology and astronomy. Would a laymen like me, with basic physics, chemistry and math, be able to understand your new book, or is it geared mainly for professionals in the field?

Yeah, yeah, sure. You supported the NRA at one time. Not "at one time", smart guy. I am a member and supported them (financially) until the day they endorsed Specter. Now prove to me the GOA has ever passed a single, solitary pro-gun Bill by itself. They should change their motto to "No Results".
From one of the pro-gun websites, I can see that the NRA is very "good" at passing gun (control) legislation.
Two words concerning the NRA-ILA: Stay Away.
This is the lobbying body of the NRA. They make all the political moves. & no doubt they are effective, more effective than the GOA.
But being effective isn't everything - you have to be effective at a certain goal.
For gun owners that goal would be not only stopping the encroachment of our Right to Arms, but reversing it.
That's where the NRA-ILA fails & the GOA & other similar groups shine. The NRA through its ILA & state affiliate counterparts have approved of & passed more gun control legislation than they've even thought about fighting. NFA of '34? NRA approved. GCA of '68? NRA approved. Go right down the list & you will not find a gun control bill that did not get a nod from the NRA. Doubt me? feel free to look it up for yourself. But there's an easy way to at least initially give my accusations some weight. Go to the NRA's website & see what they say about Project Exile. The program that strictly enforces all the gun laws on the books. They support it. They promote it. They like it. Now if they oppossed any gun control laws &/or wanted said gun control laws repealed, why would they support the strict enforcement of them? As I said that should at least get you curious enough to do a bit more research.
& the NRA's usual excuse when cornered on support for a gun control law is that it would have passed anyway, but thanks to them they watered it down. AWB? would've passed so the NRA caved in. Brady Bill? Ditto. Funny thing is when a large influential special interest group doesn't fight the passage of a bill, then damned if the bill doesn't usually pass!
In any event sending cash to the NRA-ILA is no better than sending cash to the Brady Campaign. In fact, at least the Brady Campaign is semi-honest about what they'll use the cash for.

I hate this "we can't win unless we give up the farm" attitude that Republicans constantly display when they actually need to stand up and be willing to "go to the mattresses for their beliefs"...Please don't tell me Toomey can't win in November - he CAN and WILL if Republicans just stand firm for a change!

Excellent analysis, and I had forgotten how Specter only beat Lynn ("Juanita" County) Yeakel by three points.
Let's go, Pat!

My hope is that whoever wins the primary is not so badly beaten up that they won't be able to defeat Joe Hoeffel in November.
A party divided against itself cannot long survive.
Keeping this seat in GOP hands is the most important thing of all...regardless of whether its Specter or Toomey.

Please don't tell me Toomey can't win in November - he CAN and WILL if Republicans just stand firm for a change! You are right, its non-sequitar nonsense. The press and the people who are printing that Toomey can't win are either ideologically opposed to conservatives, or cowardly followers-neither of which is worth taking seriously. It doesn't pass the smell test, look at Santorum winning there.

WOW!!!
Thanks, and again, my prayers are with Toomey, regardless of any backroom deals he brokered with the NRA.

"Yes, as long as the dem doesn't have a pro-gun rating better than Toomey."
Joe Hoeffel, the Democrat Senate candidate, happens to be one of the biggest gun-grabbers in the House. Shouldn't you know that?
Oh, and it is risible for you to claim that Arlen Specter is a better defender of the right to bear arms than Pat Toomey. I know that other FReepers have replied to you with factual evidence of Arlen being a gun grabber, but you still choose to ignore such evidence and support Arlen. While it's your right to vote for a gun-grabbing RINO, don't go around claiming that you're a pro-gun conservative.

Keeping this seat in GOP hands is the most important thing of all...regardless of whether its Specter or Toomey. I can't agree. Having Spectre in may put the GOP in the majority on paper but it will be in name only as Spectre votes like a democrap. Today he was even bragging that he thinks independently (even though many of his ads attack Toomey for not voting with the Republican majority). Spectre thinks independently like a liberal. For all we know he'd jump like Jumpin' Jim Jeffords after the election.
It would be better to have a conservative win, but if not a conservative, then a liberal who is honest about what he is is better than a RINO.
Shalom.
