This disaster plays a prominent role in Jack Higgins' book Night of the Fox, in which a survivor of the attack drifts across to the Channel Islands, which are under Nazi occupation at the time, and must be rescued or eliminated due to the fact that he has intimate knowledge of the upcoming Normandy invasion.
