OLIPHANT: I WATCHED KERRY THROW WAR DECORATIONS
Drudge ^

OLIPHANT IN COMING BOSTON GLOBE: 'I was 4 or 5 feet behind John Kerry. I watched Kerry reach with his right hand into the breast pocket of his fatigue shirt. The hand emerged with several of the ribbons... There couldn't have been all that many decorations in his hand -- six or seven -- because he made a closed fist around his collection... From what I could observe firsthand about Friday, April 23, 1971, Kerry did not make even the slightest effort to pretend that he was throwing all of his military decorations over that fence.... Kerry had arrived here with only the ribbons he wore on his shirt... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have always found the political junk served up by Kerry's detractors to be undignified as well as largely inaccurate. I write now because the political junk is much higher profile now, though no less misleading -- and not, by the way, because in her fourth job in the public arena, my daughter just joined Kerry's staff. I just happened to be there that long-ago day. I saw what happened and heard what Kerry said and know what he meant. The truth happens to be with him...' Impacting Hard Late Monday...

and the rage exhibited by him and others was frightening.
Seems the left is fueled by hate for the United States.
To: Burkeman1
Sorry. It is a lie. Kerry wouldn't know how to tell the truth if it smacked him upside his head

If I am not mistaken, Oliphant's wife is a MA judge and was involved in the decision to allow same sex marriages.

Whether J fn K threw ribbons, medals, other military articles, the gesture was meant to be symbolic. For him to dissemble regarding his actions is to quibble.
I was in the Air Force at the time and his actions were noted but I believe that the actions of the antiwar advocates that demonsrtated their beliefs by self immolation were more dramatic.
Dramatic Anti War Demonstration

I just love people's memories from 33 years ago, especially when they probably went out and got stoned later that night.
Was Oliphant there as a reporter 33 years ago, or just as a spectator? Reporters typically have reams of notes about what they've witnessed, and it's not unreasonable for him to still have the notes from that event. And it's amazing how much you can reconstruct from just a few notes.
Did Oliphant file a story 33 years ago?

Excellent comments...I agree wholeheartedly..to expand on your last para..in 2000, a sitting VP, in peacetime, in a booming economy and soaring stockmarket, lost, and couldn't even carry his own home state and that of the retiring president/ Now, we're at war, and 50% of the Dems in this country are pacifist at heart and want to pull the troops out tomorrow...Bush has a 3o point advantage int the polls ont he issue of security, and the OTHER half of the Dem party, when they get into the voting booth, will NOT be able to vote for Kerry..This race will break late, and BIG for Bush..it may break sooner when Teresa's tax returns come out. They're gonna be uglier than Hillary and Maddy Albright combined..

"I don't get it. Wasn't the point of the protest that he threw his medals over the fence? Otherwise, he might as well throw a couple of ping-pong balls."

Oliphant? is this that liberal weasel from Boston with the bow tie on PBS?Yes, that weasel.
Oliphant's story sounds suspiciously like Kerry's --"reached in his left breast pocket" etc., etc.
Such similar memories of such minute detail from all those years ago? Methinks Oliphant is suffering from recovered memory syndrome -- false memory, that is, induced by that severe mental illness that afflicts liberals: Hate-Bush-itis.
