I think was about a month ago. These issues run together. As soon as I finish typing the translation of Voice of Jihad, Al Battar comes out. As soon as I get that translation typed, a new Voice of Jihad comes out. And the cycle continues LOL. All of this with a full-time job!

SP, Thank you for all your hard work translating. We appreciate you so much!!

Heard on the news this morning.

They said plutonium and highly enriched uranium appears at risk at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.

From the link...........snipped

Rep. Christopher Shays' committee will hold a hearing today. The Energy Department has nuclear materials in at least seven major weapons sites across the nation, but Livermore is closer to a major metropolitan area than the others.

The bomb-making materials at Livermore have received particular attention, based on concerns about the site's vulnerabilities. The materials are kept in a fenced area known as the Superblock, situated near a residential tract.

Unlike the security forces at other weapons sites, Livermore's personnel do not have certain high-powered weapons, door-breaching explosives or helicopters to defend the site. Superblock is packed into the dense Livermore complex, making it tougher to defend than remote facilities, security experts said.

The most serious concern is that a highly trained suicide terrorist team could penetrate Superblock or any Energy Department site and construct a crude bomb known as an improvised nuclear device.

During a 2002 Senate hearing, Energy Department weapons experts estimated that a bomb with a yield of one-kiloton could be built in minutes by terrorists once they gained access to the materials. Such a bomb would destroy the lab, the surrounding city and cause tens of thousands of casualties, the experts warned.

What's up with NJ and truck accidents?

MAJOR TRAFFIC PROBLEMS IN NEW JERSEY

(New Jersey-WABC, April 27, 2004) — New Jersey commuters beware! You are going to have a rough commute this morning because of truck accidents on two major roadways.

Around 6:00 a.m., there was an overturned tractor-trailer on Interstate 80 in Paterson, NJ.

This accident happened about 4:30 a.m. this morning on the westbound side of Route 80, which is just east of Route 19. The tractor-trailer is completely turned over on its side and hanging over the highway divider.

As a result of this accident, the eastbound lanes of Route 80 are subject to closure while crews try to get this tractor-trailer up righted. So as it stands now, there is only one lane open on the westbound side of the road while the eastbound side is completely shutdown.

Meanwhile, if you are thinking about Route 78 as an alternate, there is another problem between exits 43 and 44. This is where a truck slammed into an overpass. The accident is causing delays for about a mile in both directions. Commuters should be prepared for some significant delays on this roadway.

Oh great, they need to publicize this to such an extent? They might as well have just provided the mapquest directions for the terrorists.

Heads up Florida:

Semi Truck Stolen From City of Melbourne Public Works Yard

POSTED: 12:11 pm EDT April 27, 2004

MELBOURNE, Fla. -- Police in Melbourne are trying to track down the people who broke into the city's public works yard and stole a semi truck. The truck was stolen from the yard off Wickham Road in Melbourne.

It's hard to believe that someone could get away with stealing something this big, but they did. Now, police are trying to find the rig, another trailer and at least two people they believe are behind this.

The fleet manager came out to the yard to check out a new piece of equipment and instead found a busted out window in one cab, the hood up as if someone tried to hot wire it but couldn't, and a second rig and a brand new trailer missing altogether.

Police believe a pair of thieves broke into the yard sometime over the weekend and hotwired the semi. Workers there can't believe it. There were work crews in and out of the yard all weekend. They say it was a very brazen move. They have no doubt the thieves were professional.

"The tractor that they stole was attached to another trailer. They disconnected it, hooked up another trailer and drove off with it. They obviously knew what they were doing," explains Public Works Director Bob Klaproth.

The equipment is worth more than $100,000. The city hopes someone might see the rig and call police. It was painted white with a city of Melbourne logo on it.

Here's a FR thread with an article that describes exactly what they were planning in Jordan...it's not pretty. Thankfully we and the Jordanians were able to stop them.

Waiting for word on any chemical weapons, but it sounds like they used car bombs and gun squads. If they used gun squads, it sounds more like the Saudi housing complex bombings from earlier in March.

Passenger With Lighter Forces Delta Flight to Divert to Salt Lake City Apr 27, 2004 12:12 pm US/Mountain A Delta Airlines flight from Los Angeles to New York was diverted to Salt Lake City after a man produced a butane lighter on board the plane. Delta Flight 1986 was re-routed for security reasons. The plane is on the ground at Salt Lake International. Delta officials say a man on the plane produced a butane lighter that was concealed in an electronic device. They say the man- who was on his way to Prague- was acting “a little odd” and the plane’s crew diverted the aircraft. Security officers are interviewing the man and a second party. They are also searching the plane to ensure that it is safe to continue on to New York. The other passengers were being re-screened so they can board the plane once it clears security. So far there is no indication of any delays at the airport. Stay tuned to 2News for the latest information. http://kutv.com/topstories/local_story_118134514.html ***********************************************************

From the Arabic forums:

BEGINT TRANSLATION

Strong explosions shook the region of Almaza in the Syrian capital Damascus, and the warning sirens in the region wounded, and that according to what was reported on the Iranian world channel. They have reported that the explosions resulted from a booby-trapped car.

News organizations Alf daya and Al Jazeera have confirmed this, and have described a dense firefight in the Syrian capital after the explosions that say that it targeted the British embassy.

There is uncertain news about an attack on the foreign embassies there.

END TRANSLATION

Another report indicates that the British and Saudi embassies have been attacked.

Yet another forum says that that the correspondent of Abozbi channel in Tehran Najah Muhammad Ali claims this is a raid carried out by Zionist aeroplanes on Palestinian sites belonging to Hamas in the Syrian capital Damascus.

I have no clue what is true.

Report: Explosions, gunfire in central Damascus
By JPOST.COM STAFF

Several explosions rocked central Damascus and a gun battle erupted between Syrian troops and unidentified gunmen in the Syrian capital Tuesday night, TV networks reported.

Syrian state-controlled television said state security forces were fighting what it called "a terrorist band."

Global television news agencies report a series of explosions, as many as 15, heard in the Syrian capital. Al-Jazeera reported that several explosions and gun fire were in west Damascus' al-Mazza district, where the Saudi Embassy and the British ambassador's residence are located.

SKY News quoted sources saying that the British embassy was "not involved" in the incident. A British Foreign Office official said the explosion took place near the Iranian ambassador's residence.

The gun battle is reportedly taking place in an area between the Iranian and Canadian embassies.

CNN reported that calls have been made to doctors to return to emergency wards. There are no reports yet of casualties
