I would agree with him to the point that we must identify the enemy and defeat them by one means or another, quickly and with as little loss of life on our side as possible. I really think that the WWII model should be looked at. Several enemy cities, not just Hiroshima and Nagasaki, were turned into smoking ruins with hundreds of thousands of civilian casualties. Internment camps were set up and filled with people on the basis of their ethnicity.

We won WWII. Although people will not admit it, there are many parallels with the present struggle. It really is good versus evil and when you are battling evil you sometimes have to use unconstitutional methods. You also have to fight the war with less regard for the civilian population of the enemy than is now being shown.

The bad news is that is does not take standing armies of millions or hundreds of thousands to take out whole cities any longer. Whereas the Germans and Japanese had difficult, yet obtainable goal this war is not a winnable victory to the terrorists, only death and loss, more death and loss.

The solution we pursued in Afghanistan was a success in many ways. Go in on the ground and destroy the infrastructure. This will need to happen with Syria, Iran and North Korea. As the US follows this strategy, the bigger geopolitical powers (especially China) who help fund these entities to weaken us and get us spread militarily will become directly involved.
