Sunday, April 25, 2004 11:39 p.m. EDT Kerry a Cheapskate, Senate Waiter Says
When it comes to his Senate dining room tipping habits, you'd hardly know Sen. John Kerry married his way into a half-billion-dollar fortune.
Independent researcher Tom Kuiper called our attention last week to a passage from Ron Kessler's 1997 best seller, "Inside Congress: The Shocking Scandals, Corruption, and Abuse of Power Behind the Scenes on Capitol Hill."
Kessler's account includes a few choice quotes from one of the Senate dining room waiters, who used to regularly serve the Senate's wealthiest member.
Kerry is "real cheap," the waiter told Kessler. "He tips, but it is ten percent and below."
The waiter noted that the Massachusetts Democrat isn't alone. Some of Kerry's less-gold-plated colleagues "either do not tip or tip very little. ... They might go out without signing their check or they might sign the check w/ no tip."

That's probably because he regards these people as servants. But a Spanish proverb calls servants... "unaviodable enemies." I expect more info like this as the days roll by.

Somehow this fits his personality to a tee. Contrast this with the Bush's who are known to be very generous tippers.

Servers and bartenders generally make less than the minimum wage and depend on tips to make a living. Liberals are always screaming about the minimum wage not being enough to live on, yet, as a group, they tip less than the average. Go figure.

Wonder if the patrons in the Senate dining room might get
the same treatment that chronicly lousy tippers get at
most places? Extra ingredients in the mashed potatoes, etc,?

Who the hell is this waiter to say Kerry is a cheapskate? I'll bet he's saving his money so he can give it to charity ... oh, wait. Nevermind. My mistake.

Plus servers and bartender's tips are taxable, leaving them with even less income.

Oh come on, give him a break.
After all, he has no money of his own - it all belongs "to the family"!
Bwaaahahaha!!! /obvious sarcasm off

I know several multi-millionaires who are sick in the head because they are so cheap. They're worse off than if they were poor.

Robert F. Kennedy in church, didn't carry money, so one of his aides dropped some money in the basket for him. RFK says to him "Don't you think I would've given more than that?"
Wish I could find the link - not for lack of trying. I read it in a book review on RFK in the Economist about 2 years back. Still searching for it.

My son used to work at a club and so did his girlfriend, they told me that the people who never tipped were the rich ones, especially the kids of the rich! Only Kerry is not rich, never was, but the Kerry cow is very rich!

You gotta remember, JFnK doesn't have millions, "the family" has it. Yeah, that's it, that's the ticket. JFnK has never had money, he relates to the common working man, in fact, he was born a poor black child.....

Bad tipping must be a democrat/liberal trait...remember the Clintons (especially Hillary) who never tipped, let alone paid for food on her Senate campaign excursions....they just expect the "little" people to serve only them....
