So let me get this straight; an off duty cop can go to a school [even for civilian purposes] with a gun for his individual\personal protection, but I can't?
Why is his\her life more valuable than mine?

Police said the officer placed his loaded .40 caliber Glock handgun on the roof of his car near the intersection of Michigan and Kimber avenues and then forgot it as he pulled away.

Sounds like Glock abuse. This pistol needs to go to a loving home.

Retail minimum for most hardware without paper. A cop's piece might bring less if the buyer reads the paper...

Never put your briefcase, computer bag, laundry bag or your Glock on the roof or trunk of a car. Sure as shoot'n you are going to forget it and drive off. Coffee cups too are forgotten when placed there.
