Perhaps the arc of the pendulum grows larger with time, sort of like the pangs of birth getting more instense as the time draws near to delivery. Jesus had it right all along.
Well,perhaps;but,as bad as things are now,they aren't as bad as they have been,in earlier eras...yet.
