FYI..about 20 years ago, the NAVY had aan experimental project for rocket boosted projectiles from battleships...this was before the BB's were retired..but they were getting 200 miles range with 16" shells...and today, with smart bomb technology, the project would be awesome...something like 85% of the world's population is within 200 miles of water....and it'd be very cost effective...

Remember the HARP (High Altitude Research Project) Project? 2, 16" BB gun tubes linked together to provide greater muzzle velocity? One of the goals was to explore the idea of using a heavily modified supergun to launch satellites into low earth orbit. I think what killed it was the G-forces involved in any type of gun tube launching system. It just kills the electronic payload -- at least the electronics that were available in the '60's.
Those rocket assist 16" shells, or the "Base Bleed" variants all had smallish warheads, too.
