My mind could be playing tricks but I believe the photo posted at #20 is not the one originally posted. I remember a horse drawn wagon carrying a flagged-draped coffin?

It seems like forever ago, but was just November I had to send one of my guys to Kuwait as an escort.
The USAF was really something. They emptied a C5 to take the body and escort immediately instead of making them wait for a later, smaller flight. They showed diginty as respect the whole way. And they never even knew the dead civilian who worked indirectly for them.

Rusty Humphries read this on his talk show during the week.
What an absolute tribute to a wonderful man.
God Bless his family!

Thank you for sharing that, EE. Adding prayers for those who are required to make the decisions that send others - military
and civilian - into harm's way.
Two more that opened my eyes a bit, powerful works that should be required reading by every civilian - and especially members of our press who exploit every casualty without understanding the courageous choice to serve, and what our troops sacrifice for our freedom.

Reading this is extraordinary.
The response of those who handled the remains is heart rendering.
That is the America I know!

Faces of Valor
The news media is reporting that since April 1, more than 120 troops have been killed in action in Iraq, according to the Pentagon. In reality, the total number of American deaths is over 155. The Pentagon number, repeated by the media, only includes the fatalities for which next-of-kin have been notified and the names of the deceased which has been publicly reported. As of the end of April, there were nearly three dozen fatalities for which the names had not been released, some dating back to the beginning of the month.

I read this beautiful tribute when you first posted, and I haven't the heart to read it again, so if this has already been said, my apologies, but Good Morning America read the names last week of some of our beloved sons and daughters who have died in Iraq. Chance Phelps was one of those whose names were read and his picture shown ... I knew him from what you posted, and my heart was grieved anew.

I practically bumped into Chance's step-mom accidentally and our introductions began in the noisy hallway outside the gym. In short order I had met Chance's step-mom and father followed by his step-dad and, at last, his mom. I didn't know how to express to these people my sympathy for their loss and my gratitude for their sacrifice. Now, however, they were repeatedly thanking me for bringing their son home and for my service. I was humbled beyond words. This moved me to tears. May all our fallen heroes rest in peace.

Listening this read over the car radio stopped me dead in my tracks.
I will send you something along the same lines I came across in a June 12, 1944 LIFE magazine this morning.
God Bless you, and all those brave men and women overseas.
