They don't need external funding because of oil money, especially Iranian and Saudi. A China or a Russia would be more likely to contribute by U.N. security council actions, diplomatic nuances, or even by giving intelligence/advice or "leaking" specific arms components available on the black market.
An example of diplomatic nuance is the whole issue of Taiwan vs. the DPRK's nuclear threat. China knows it's a good time to pressure the USA. So do France and Iran, for that matter. But China can apply pressure in highly indirect ways.

The UN is hardly in a position these days to respond with credibility. Syria had plans and hopes to get the same "nuclear" deal Iran got from the Russians.
Now our own liberals seem to be calling the direction of focus for their fellow travelers. This continuous drum beat of seeking to make Iraq the reenactment of "vietnam" is not just one of symbolics. Step back and remember the players that cause what most Americans perceive the loss of a war in Vietnam.
Creation of a "vietnam syndrome" requires the same players on the world stage and is not limited to just a bunch of "60's" hippies. These people are not playing games, "FREEDOM" in Iraq is the beginning of the END of their way of life.
