The government of Israel does not have a plan for disengaging from the Gaza Strip. The question being placed before Likud party members is whether or not Jewish settlement should be evacuated in the face of pressure from terrorism. Thats all. The assumption of many people in Israel that in another eighteen months, we will be able to send Gaza to hell (Get them out of my sight, Let them stew in their own juice) is similar to the hope that one leader of the Labor Party and Meretz expressed in 1993, Let Gaza drown in the sea. However, according to the program presented the government ministers, Israel will continue supplying the Gaza Strip with electricity, fuel, cement and food, as indeed it should. The Gaza Strip will continue to supply Israel with thousands of workers. The people who will protect the residents of Israel from terrorist plots will be the General Security Service and the companies, battalions and brigades of the Israel Defense Forces that will work in the Gaza Strip. Israel will not turn its back on Gaza.
To this day, no one has explained exactly how running away under fire will improve the security of citizens of Israel. The reason is simple. It is impossible to explain. The expected outcome of the great escape is modestly described in the introduction of The Disengagement Plan: The plan will lead to a better security reality, at least in the short term. Hard to believe? Read it again: the short term, a few months. Even those who devised the plan assume that it is likely that its implementation will not improve the security situation one or two years into the future. It might even make it worse. Let us not get bogged down in small details. Is a short term improvement bad? Well worry about the future when it happens.
However, we are being told that Mr. Sharon is an expert in matters of security. This is true but even an expert engineer can make a mistake. Even an expert physician can err and Mr. Sharon has already made several grievous errors in important security matters. Two examples: In 1998, when he was Foreign Minister in Prime Minister Netanyahus government, he participated in the negotiations with Arafat at Wye Plantation in the United States and supported turning over 400 sq km of land near Jenin to Palestinian control. Today, who would claim that abandoning that territory, which enlarged the capabilities of the terrorist organizations in Samaria, wasnt a mistake?
In 2001, while the PLO, Hamas and Islamic Jihad were killing us weekly, Prime Minister Sharon adopted the brave slogan, restraint is power and prevented IDF forces from working continuously in the terrorist centers of Jenin, Nablus, Kalkilya, Tul Karm and Ramallah. Only in 2002, after the murder in the Park Hotel in Netanya, when it became clear that the murderers did not understand the power of restraint did Mr. Sharon give his approval for our forces in Samaria to implement Operation Defensive Shield. Today, who would claim that curbing the IDF in the months before that operation, wasnt a mistake?
Let us leave the present aside for a moment and consider the near future. If members of the Likud vote in favor of Mr. Sharons plan for withdrawing under fire, the day of victory will come in approximately one and half years. According to the plan, at the end of 2005 there will be no more Jews in Gush Katif. Please close your eyes and try to imagine that day. Hear the murder from the Hamas and Islamic Jihad shouting for joy. Hear the sounds of celebration drowned out by the shots being fired from the Kalashnikovs of the PLOs Al Aksa Brigades. In your minds eye, envision the Hamas flag flying over a synagogue in Gush Katif, the flag of the Islamic Jihad flying above the Regional Council Office and flags of the Al Aksa Brigades above houses where three generations of Jews lived in Gush Katif. Hear the speeches praising the expulsion of the Jews who were pressured out by terrorism, lauding the redemption of the land made possible by following the teachings holy martyrs, Yassin and Rantisi. Think of the tremendous encouragement this will give to all those who seek to murder us.
This plan damages Israels security in both the short and the long term. Mr. Sharons plan will inevitably lead to the day when the evil triumphs over the right and murder defeats construction. Anyone who really wants to see that day come, can vote in favor of the plan for Mr. Sharons plan for withdrawal in the face of terrorism. Everyone else can prevent it.
As this article states, and as is fact, the border will not be closed (workers will still be allowed in, electricity still flowing, etc). Suicide terror will still continue from Arabs coming from the "West Bank," and missiles will be flying from Gaza deeper into Israel
2. The palestintians economy colapse, they blame Israel and call for war.
Has already happened, Israel blamed.
3. The war begins, Israel destroys the palestintian living in Gaza and the West Bank take all of Gaza and the West Bank back.
War is already being waged right now. Israel will not destroy the Arabs in Gaza and "West Bank." The world is committed to giving these Arabs a state.
4. The Arabs declare war and Israel takes back the Sinai Peninsula, Lebanon and parts of Jordan and Syria.
In all the wars Israel has fought, the US has pulled Israel back from doing such things.
Leaving Gaza is a victory for terrorism.
