Sierra Club Leadership's Candidates Win

SAN FRANCISCO -- Sierra Club leaders have beaten back an effort by anti-immigration forces to gain control of the nation's largest and most influential environmental group.

In elections for the Sierra Club's 15-member board of directors, candidates picked by the leadership won all five open seats in a landslide, according to vote tallies released Wednesday, several hours after voting closed. The bitterly contested election had been conducted by mail and online since March 1.

"It's a stunning rejection of the anti-immigration forces," said Adam Werbach, the club's president from 1996 to 1998. "I think people realized that there's no role for racism or anti-immigrant feelings in the environmental movement." On the Net:

Too bad. It would have been nice to have some saner heads prevail at the Commie Sierra Club. It's OK for the invading illegal army from South of the Border to trample every living plant for miles to death, but God help an American property owner who finds some stupid weed or bug on his property.

The Sierra Club isn't interested in actually protecting the environment, it just wants to advance a broad, generic left-wing agenda.

Or at least the members who thought it was an environmental preservation group now know otherwise. What were they thinkin'?

Was that Pat Buchanan's bucanneers trying to take over another national organization like they did Ross Perot's party?

Hmmmm. Hasn't the argument been about "illegal immigration," rather than "immigration?" You can't tell tell the difference by reading this article.

Most all enviro-wackos are the same: green on the outside-red on the inside. Their goal is not to protect any living thing; but to destroy private property rights.
