News Advisory:
On Mothers' Day, May 9, the Second Amendment Sisters (SAS) will be standing up for the basic human right of self-defense for women and others.
The SAS event in Washington, D.C., is called the Second Amendment Freedoms for Everyone Rally, commonly known as the S.A.F.E.R. event. The event is being held at Freedom Plaza, on Pennsylvania Avenue, between 13th and 14th streets, starting at 11 a.m. and concluding at 3 p.m.
The people's God-given right to keep and bear arms, as articulated in the Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America (a part of the Bill of Rights), is being assaulted on a daily basis by well-funded anti-gun organizations.
The so-called 'Million' Mom March (MMM), an anti-gun group, will be holding a rally in Washington, D.C., at the same time.
Unbelievably, the extremist MMM is asking Congress to renew and strengthen the so-called 'Assault Weapons Ban' -- a law that even the Centers for Disease Control admits has had no effect on crime. The gun-grabbers are also shooting to reinstate the 5-day Brady waiting period for all gun purchases, which has proven itself to be utterly worthless since its inception, according to the Second Amendment Sisters.
The S.A.F.E.R. event will include the following speakers:
Shemane Nugent -- Shemane is the author of the new book, "Married to a Rock Star," and the wife of rocker Ted Nugent. She also co-authored a book with her husband titled "Kill It and Grill It." Shemane is an outspoken supporter of Second Amendment rights, and has organized outdoor education for women camps.
Sarah Rouse-Sarah -- the youngest speaker at 16 years old, was crowned Miss New Mexico Junior Teen in July of 2003. She took first place in the speech competition with her speech about the Second Amendment and the need for women to learn to protect themselves.
Niger Innis -- Mr. Innis serves as the National Spokesman for the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE); an organization committed to community development and empowerment. Innis is also a contributor on MSNBC, providing insight and analysis on news events.
Kay Daly -- Kay is the host "The Daly Report" radio show. She is also the leader of the "Coalition for a Fair Judiciary." Kay was awarded the 30th Annual Conservative Political Action Conference's Ronald Reagan Award. She has testified before the Senate sub-committee on the Constitution in regards to the appointments of Federal Justices.
Reverend Joyce Smith (aka Re-Joyce) -- Rev. Smith is a Baptist minister hailing from Paris, Texas. The Reverend spoke at SAS's first rally in 2000, and is an avid supporter of the Second Amendment.
Suzanna Gratia-Hupp -- Mrs. Hupp, also a returning speaker, became a Texas State Representative and is active in firearms law reform after losing her parents in the Luby's Cafeteria attack in Killeen, Texas, where she left her personal firearm in her vehicle to conform with then Texas law.
Julia Gorin -- Ms. Gorin is an opinion writer and contributing editor for FoxNews.com and JewishWorldReview.com. She is also a stand-up comedian specializing in conservative humor. Ms. Gorin is the author of "The Buddy Chronicles"
For further details about the S.A.F.E.R. event, check the SAS Web site at http://www.2asisters.org.
SAS is a grassroots organization of volunteers who believe that "Self-Defense is a Basic Human Right."
However the group would like to point out its revised name for 2004, now the Hundred Hag Hike (HHH).
What's going on, pal? I hope you're okay. Hubby and I are able to go but when we get back we're gonna focus on his battle with cancer. Sheeeeesh. The challenges of life . . . one at a time.
I JUST LOVE THAT TITLE!!! Hubby and I will be there, Lord willing.
Amen. God bless you, Sweetie.
