HAMTRAMCK, Mich. (AP) -- A mosque took another step Tuesday night toward being allowed to send out a call to prayer to Muslims on a loudspeaker.
In a 5-0 vote, the City Council gave its preliminary approval to the Bangladeshi al-Islah mosque to carry the Arabic call to prayer five times a day. The mosque compromised by agreeing not to air the call before 6 a.m. or after 10 p.m.

Be very afraid. I watched this on local news, the locals are furious. Your neighborhood could be next. "The locals" may indeed be furious, yes, but their non-Muslim representatives are voting against their wishes, and appeasing the Muslims. And the "locals" will not do a damn thing about it. Christians continue to be silent, and lose yet another piece of this nation.
During the 1967 war against Israel, the Mufti of Jerusalem used the Al-Asqa mosque's loudspeaker to tell his faithful to "kill every Jew...drive them into the sea".

""We are not inviting (non-Muslims)," he said. "We are calling our Muslim people, reminding them they are obligated to come to pray." "
As in, 'you are our slaves, do as we say'.

I really hope he made that story up too. Wow. And at a crummy library job? Talk about the need to tell them off..

I have the feeling this is just the beginning. In the short run it's spooky and intrusive. But in the long run (see #47) it will be headed for a legal showdown, and based on everything else we see going on these days, there is no way this blaring can stand.

Well, I think the local churches should start their own calls to prayer. The resulting tirade by the ACLU types should shut everybody down.

Yes, and the muezzin also chants "There is no God but Allah and Mohammed is his messenger" and "prayer is better than sleep."

"Come on down and worship Jesus, praise the lord!, Come on down right now and pray with us, sing with us and study with us. Jesus is Lord!" If you stood on a box nearly anywhere in the Muslim world, and spoke those words, you would be stoned, and likely killed.

I'm sure there are some mischievous local folks who could hack into the frequency the "Call to Evil" is playing on, and pipe in some Nirvana or something.

The resulting tirade by the ACLU types should shut everybody down.I am sure this loudspeaker issue has been an agenda for a long time for these transplants. They finally found a place for a "victory" and the news will travel fast. There were numerous online newspaper articles and at least one thread here yesterday on this topic. I was surprised to see that AP picked up the story and overnight it is national news. Perhaps the media is going to show its agenda on this one soon.

I think they've already shown their agenda. I don't recall the media squawking while church bells were being silenced.

Used to live near a University with bells...rang them at noon & the sound was kinda pleasant.
Spent time in Turkey & Saudi...heard the cats being tortured at all hours. Nothing pleasant about it.
I think the local Baptist church should mount loudspeakers and broadcast "Onward christian Soldiers" at the same time as the cats are being whipped.
Of course, the city council would never allow those darned christians to pull this nonsense!

Some Muslims say the call is the equivalent of church bells.
Church bells are not the equivalent of blasting out 'God is Great' and come to prayer. What's next, the mutawa in Hamtramck driving up and down the streets yelling out 'Sala Sala' (prayer)? This is an outrage. Where is the ACLU? Oh that's right, they only fight for separation of church and state when Christianity is involved!
