Droll is correct when used as synonym to "laughable, fracical, ridiculous, ludicrous, absurd or preposterous" as noted in my Merriam-Webster Thesaurus. Of course the thick-witted dems subjected to this drollery were nodding off on their feet, not laughing, while I was having troubles suppressing guffaws.
Dull is also descriptive of the event as it relates to the Democrats' existential moment, but ignores the laughably absurd aspect of the content and style of Kerry's speech, e.g., he offered a long and sometime incorrect list of Democrat 'accomplishments' which included the creation of the EPA, laughably a Nixon administration baby.
