Thanks for clearing that up about the leg. I wonder where it is now? As Jim mentioned, DNA testing would be interesting, doncha think? ;-)
Where's UnderscoreJim? This is highly unusual for him to not pop up within 30 minutes, much less be a no-show.
Maybe he's too busy preparing for his trial testimony.

Jayna Davis, on Glenn Beck today, put forth a 2 pronged theory.
First, that the new tone, and the non-pursuit of any old Clinton era garbage, was necessary to bury the impression that the Republicans were just obsessed with desperately trying to pin ANYTHING on him. To this day, the Bush Admin is very careful to leave that stuff alone. The pursuit of this evidence would seem to be an attempt to blame Clinton for the terrorism problem, probably something that Bush trusts people to figure out for themselves.
Second, that the relevant info, which seems to have stopped at the Dallas FBI office, (by the direction of Gorelick/Reno, presumably) never made it to the players in Washington. Agency staffers were mainly holdovers from Clinton, so the DEA, FBI, CIA, NSA, and any and all relevant agency heads were kept in the dark as to the existence of Davis's further evidence. (She cited Condi's testimony as to the credibility of this situation-- that decision makers simply didn't have good info.)
So Ashcroft was eager to off McVeigh because of the appearance of sparing him, and the bad press that would surely ensue.
I don't know, though. It sounds plausible, certainly sounds like politicians, but I'm willing to wait and see what else shakes out. Especially in an election year.

This is a HUGE story.
Can anybody explain why its release is timed to coincide with the 9th anniversary of the bombing?

Sounds plausible. On the other hand, OKC certainly was a high-profile case. You'd think that before Ashcroft had McVeigh executed so quickly, he would have reviewed the file (including all confidential aspects) and consulted with some of the agents involved in the investigation since this was such a notorious case.

The only thing Clinton is interested in is power. If the polls told him an action would garner him votes, he did it. If the polls came out against, he would not do it. Bosnia came about because the press had made a case with the sheeple.

The tragedy of this is that many of the so-called conspiracy freaks were spot-on with this, Oklahoma City, Waco, and Flight 800. The left decried anyone connecting the dots early on as a nut case. (DUH!, They still are!)
Instead of decrying conspiracy freaks, maybe some of the conspiracy theories should be re-examined.
The classical scientific method involved disproving hypotheses, gradually advancing the survivors to 'theory' status. Hmmmmm. Maybe it is time to take the same approach to politics.
I always assume the worst, then look for evidence to refute the assumption. With this much potential for consolidation and abuse of power, sometimes the worst is the best-case scenario.

this "wall" they keep talking about that Gorelick made worse ... who originally put the wall up? During the Carter time. Surprise ! http://www.eff.org/Censorship/Terrorism_militias/fisa_faq.html TRUE.. the FISA was the act of congress but make no mistake about, GORE-lick installed the wall. She ran the justice dept..Reno was just a figurehead.
G-lick is totally responsible...actually, the proper term is culpable.

It's fallout from the Terry Nichols trial.
Also, all the peripheral info, as OKC relates to 911, TWA800, and only God knows what else, is a result of Ashcroft's subtle stab into the heart of Jamie Gorelick last week.
Plus, there's an election coming up, and the screwed up intelligence community, mainly by Democrats, is certainly an issue. It may take some real smooth moves, but Bush can capitalize on this info, plus perhaps bring some justice and closure to the situation, if he does it correctly.

THe lone nut scenario never washed. McVeigh was taken into custody while driving in a car with no license plate, with a loaded 9mm pistol handy.
If you had just blown up a building full of people, and you were trying to get away, what's one cop? McVeigh went placidly with the officer when taken into custody instead of dropping the guy at the window (easy head shot). It makes no sense, although I am sure the arresting officer is thankful that isn't the way things worked out.

Were the confidential aspects even available to Ashcroft? Davis thinks not.
I do know that Nichols is on the verge of walking free if the judge determines that evidence was withheld. And you know it was.

(DUH!, They still are!)Put yourself in OBL's shoes...he "does" Twin Towers #1 and it is attributed to local, domestic Mooslims..."no overseas involvement".
Then he does OKC with help from the Iraqis, and his "partners", Nichols and Mc Veigh, are "the lone gunmen".
Then he gets a "Stinger" into the hands of "Abdul in a Dingy", TWA 800 blows up, and it is "Mechanical", nothing to see here, lets move on.
OBL then does Tanzania and Kenya, we blow an Aspirin factory in the wrong country.
Next, he does the Cole, and Nothing!!!
You can almost hear him ask his sidekick..."Oy Vey, what must I do to get my picture in the Papers and on TV??? FLY AN AIRPLANE INTO the
World Trade Center???

It was put in place because of Nixon & old J Edgar. Reagan would have faced a problem knocking it down, since the legislative branch was in control of the other party, not to mention Iran Contra.
Ever wanna see a lefty sputter, say something about Iran Contra. They could almost taste taking down another Republican administration. Missed 'em by that much.
