The week is young, Howlin, just as we are both young in spirit. Let's wait and see if Woodward is willing to go to a hostile format to defend himself. LKL won't cut it. The "success" of LKL is about as amazing to me as the career successes of Ed Sullivan.

Oh, he is saying that Bush appeals to men, but women don't think they are safer and that Bush doesn't appeal to women the way he talks. Just psycho-babble, and patently untrue.

All the women in my family (less one sister) are voting for Bush.

He also went back to 1964 and reviewed elections and says that the undecideds break for the chalenger. I am not sure that works when you are 7 months out from the election...many undecideds now will not be undecided in a couple of months. Very silly stuff, in my opinion.

No doubt Woodward said there were no guards, and he walked right in. In fact, I have this vague recollection, now that you mention it, that he in fact said that.

Somebody should ask just how Woodward knows that

The same way he knows what Bill Clinton and Bob Bennett were talking about walking around outside the White House BY THEMSELVES.

He makes it up.

And you wonder how he's gotten this far?

Why don't you call up Bob Bennett and ask him if he broke attorney-client privilege and talked to Woodruff about what he said to Clinton that day.

I'll save you the trouble; Bennett said he didn't.

Which reminds me of my gripe with his last book. He spent an inordinate amount of time detailing the runup to the Afghan war, and then left the reader that the success of the strategy took everyone by surprise....like winning was dumb luck.

Dick Morris has not been right about anything since he has been working for Fox News. I wouldn't trust anything he says.

Well that leaves Clinton, or what Clinton told somebody. Didn't this story originate with Morris? Morris is a disturbed individual, but not a per se liar, IMO.

What would he have to gain by helping Woodward spread this manure? This got my attention, quickly.

Powell and Armitage are close personal friends. They came to the State Department as a package. Armitage has said that four years will be enough for both of them. Armitage can convey things to the Press and Congress that Powell can't. I don't think it is a big secret that Powell is unhappy with his position within the Administration. He has been Chairman of the JCS and the head of the NSC. In terms of influence, SecState is something of a step down compared to the other jobs.

If you recall, Powell said before the 2000 election that he would entertain job offers from either Gore or Bush. He has always seen himself as being apolitical. It is not by accident that all polls indicate that he is the most respected and admired man in America. Powell values his personal reputation more than being part of GWB's team. He is a master bureaucrat who knows how to manipulate the apparatus of Washington to his best advantage. Powell is the bureaucrat's bureaucrat. No one of either party will ever confront him publicly.

Signing off for tonight...too much yard work today. I will check in tomorrow.

Don't bother to stay up for that quote...somebody referenced it above, and I am satisfied that it wa a reference to the "How will history judge you?" question from yesterday.

Clinton told Morris who told Woodward. Piece of cake.

I missed LKL tonight and I purposely avoided Sixty Minutes last night.

Having said that, my thoughts on what President Bush said in response to the "how will history record" question, is he does not think in terms of "how will this effect my legacy", but in terms of doing what he thinks is the right thing to do.

History will take care of itself.

That's how I take it, seeing what the quote is and having a sense of President Bush.

In post #255 a whole paragraph was offered and you ignored most and pretended that the point centered on the word "is".

I'll repost the sentence that illustrates Woodward meant NOW:

"They can't talk. They don't communicate,” says Woodward. "

Thanks for the explanation. It got a great deal more clear with this. Too bad, I always labored under the idea Armitage was one of the good guys as well.

In the end,Bob Woodward is thought of outside the beltway as a leftist hack .

He's been grasping at more straws than you can find on a broken-backed camel.
