Mark for LIFE
none ^ | April 18, 2004 | Ashleigh

First of all, Mark was my cousin. How can you say things like, "He was a 16 year old doing pranks...aren't things like that out of his system" or about how he rang doorbells in the middle of the night. Maybe, it was a little naive to ring doorbells in the middle of the night, but he was just having fun and celebrating his 16th birthday! I know for a fact he would NEVER harm a fly.

First of all, Jay Levin said that he thought he was being "robbed" or thought his life was in danger. What "robber" knocks on the door before going in to rob someone? What kind of guy opens the door with a gun in his hand? Why in the world would someone shoot a boy in the back when he's already running away? Apparently if someone is running away, they're scared and don't want trouble. Jay Levin should be DEAD. A life for a life. He has NO right to be alive. And if by some miracle he is sentenced to be alive, I hope he is mentally and emotionally TORTURED everyday and torn by guilt from what he has done. Do you know how hard it is to see your favorite Aunt and Uncle, crying....hearing about how they want to be with Mark...and feeling SO helpless and not doing anything? Do you know how it feels to hold your grandmother's hand during your cousin's funeral ceremony knowing his autopsy was that day? You people can be SO heartless. How can you turn the tables around and make my cousin seem like the culprit? A harmless prank turned tragedy, that's what it is.

When you lose someone you love and that's close to you in a situation like this, you'll know how we feel.

Ashleigh, you got a LOT of support on this thread yesterday...

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1008800/posts

Don't look at just the negative reactions. I've seen negative reactions to prayer requests, Amber alerts, puppy dog pictures, and even birth announcements, so it has NOTHING to do with your cousin. It has everything to do with the fact that you will get replies from HUNDREDS of strangers who don't even know you - and strangers sometimes aren't the best people to talk to when you're really hurting.

On the other hand, sometimes you get lucky and find someone who really cares...

Do not feel alone. There are many of us who know exactly how you feel - there are many here who have lost someone dear to them. Sometimes, anger will get you through those first days when nothing else will.

I am praying for justice for you, and for everyone in this tragic, tragic story. Only justice can heal a hurt like this, that and the peace that passes understanding. You are up so late tonight. I know, you cannot sleep when you hurt like this...

I look forward to finding out what actually happened, if that is at all possible.

She's looking for support, or answers - and considering that each post was different (this is an opinion post) you really shouldn't have a problem with that. The first two posts seemed to have been stories.

If it really bothers you, set your sidebar to not show vanities.

And I have to ask - exactly what are you hoping to achieve by haranguing people who are mourning lost loved ones? Do you go to funerals just to taunt the relatives of dead children?

I wouldn't do that to anyone's relatives, not even if the dead were murderers. Mark was not a murderer, and even if he made a mistake, your breach of etiquette FAR exceeds his breach of ettiquette - ringing a doorbell in the middle of the night, as opposed to taunting mourning family members in a thread about loss.

If you have a point to make, you could make it on one of the other threads you noted. Or you might just leave the mourners to their thoughts...

I don't think we've heard the entire story here. In the mean time, I'll keep you, your cousin, and Mr. Levin in my prayers.

Was your cousin on someone else's property having "a little fun?"

Pranking around someone's house in the middle of the night ain't the brightest thing in the world to do. You put yourself at the mercy of someone who might not have your sense of humor.

I feel sorry for his parents. And for the poor bastard who shot him.

Actually it is a common tactic to see if someone is actually home before going in. Its also common for "push in" robberies, ring the doorbell and shove your way in when the door is opened.

I don't know the whole story of what is going on here, but I answer the door, gun in hand, anytime of the day, especially if I am not expecting company. It has saved my behind more than once.

My condolences for your loss, but "pranking" after dark is stupid nowadays.
