WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Jamie Gorelick, a member of the commission investigating the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, said Saturday that she received death threats this week after a number of conservatives alleged that her former work in the Justice Department may have contributed to failures leading to the attacks.
In the mid-1990s, Gorelick served as deputy attorney general of the United States. During that time, she wrote a memorandum establishing distinctions between intelligence that could be used for law-enforcement purposes and intelligence that could be used for national security purposes.
That separation was originally required as a safeguard against abuse of citizens' rights by government investigative agencies. But passage of the Patriot Act in the wake of the attacks eliminated the requirement.
The so-called "wall" governing intelligence uses has been a key subject at hearings of the commission. It has been blamed for being a main obstacle to better sharing of information in connection with the September 11 attacks.
"I can confirm that I've received threats at my office and my home," she told CNN on Saturday. "I did get a bomb threat to my home."
She added, "I have gotten a lot of very vile e-mails. The bomb threat was by phone."
ABC News first reported the story Saturday.

I despise Gorelick as much as anybody, but there is absolutely NO excuse for making death threats to her. Yeah, I agree. However, are we to take her word about these threats?
She's already displayed her trustworthiness.

"And then there's Rumsfeld who said of Iraq "We have our good days and our bad days". We should put this S.O.B. up against a wall and say "This is one of our bad days" and pull the trigger." And Imus expounded on it more Fri morning by saying "let's put Bush, Rumsfeld and that fat little jerk in Fallujah up against the wall an pull the trigger."
One out of three ain't bad...Imus is only batting .333 though.

I think the other poster was frustrated that ANYONE here would take this AT ALL seriously. This is right out of the RATmedia playbook. Just the beginning part.

He's over on another thread mocking jmstein7 and others for activism in getting her removed from the Commission. Go figure.

I'm surprised she's going for the old "death threat" sympathy ploy so soon, she must be feeling the heat.
Everyone knows that it is always Kerry-type leftists that assassinate US politicians ( Oswald ) and vote on assassinating US Senators ( Kerry and his VVAW group ).
To: justshutupandtakeit
Okay, okay. I give up. She just made it up. There, that makes it so just because we said so.
Maybe she did. I hope she did. But we have to be prepared that there may be some nutcase out there who claims to be on our side who has lost control.
Perhaps I should have used my normal newspaper sniffer and said I only believe about 2% of what I read.
I guess I must be certain, however, that all of those who are certain she was never threatened are basing their facts on having been there and seeing personall that there have been no threats.
Now, I truly think it is possible that she has not, but not 100% certain. I am 62 years old and have seen a lot of garbage stuff in my life. Sometimes good guys make stupid mistakes and run off at the mouth, or the pen or computer keyboard. I hope nobody did and she lies like a rug.
I will repeat one more concept, I guess. If she lied (the most probable scenario), then bad on her. If she did get death threats, then bad on the person(s) so threatening.
Do everything possible to get rid of the lying rotten piece of garbage, except violence. Smear her name using her own writings and utterance. Destroy her appearance of integrity by showing her lack of integrity in the things she has done.
I am all for her political destruction.
Perhaps some are just venting their anger on a faceless forum, and I guess that is okay. It just bothers me, but I neither own the forum nor am I a moderator. I have simply been here for years and am a monthly contributor.
I don't want to see us sink into a morass of name calling or lack of civility. I like to be able to send the articles and comments to many friends. It helps if we can keep our language clean and not go overboard on some of our comments.
However, that is purely your choice, whomever you are. (I am speaking generally, not to the one individual to whom this is posted.
I hope that somewhere along the line I have made a modicum of sense.
I happen to love Free Republic and spend untold hours reading the forum each week. More than that I love my country and will defender her in any way possible. But beyond that, I love my Lord and he gives me some moral guidlines about how to treat others. I try, sometimes badly, to use those guidelines to treat other posters as I would like to be treated.
If I see I am wrong, I will change. I will try to give others the benefit of the doubt. (Ain't I sweet ;))
God bless Free Republic and you Freepers. Let's just hang in there and get President Bush reelected so we can laugh at the Democrats all the way to the White House.

Didn't Dasshole try this one about a year and a half ago?Actually, I believe that Richard Clarke tried this tactic shortly after his testimony was ripped to shreads by....
his previous statements. I seem to recall that he was going to purchase some body armor because of threats.
And who said that the old tricks are the best? Now if you'll excuse me, I've just seen a wolf and must warn the town.

Kinda hard to believe anything she comes up with now. No one is interested in your sad (probably fabricated) details, Jamie. Just resign and get ready to be called to testify.

And what were the exact nature of the threats? Can we read them?
Absolutely, the threats need to be documented and authenticated by the proper authorities...this crime must be investigated.
Then she still needs to get ready to testify before the committee.

Again, you may be right that she received no death threats and, if so, I apologize.
Oh, bless you anyway, arjay. It is good to give the benefit of doubt...but we're talking about Jamie Gorelick here. C'mon, ya gotta see the humor of assuming she's telling the truth! Heh, heh...

The Vast Right Wing needs to fight back against the allegations. How in the HECK does she know it's conservatives writing vile emails or making death threats? The woman is obviously rowing a boat with one oar.

I think she should be completely and totally discredited. I want her removed from the commission and have stated so on this forum.
I'm wondering, arjay...what if she is kept on the committee so that she can be publicly exposed and trapped in her own lies each time the commission convenes. I'd buy a bunch of VHS tapes to record the hearings just like I taped the Clinton deposition which I drag out every once in a while when I need a good laugh! Ooooohhhh...a squirming Jamie Gorelick every time the commission meets...hog heaven!
