Nope, neither Minnesota or North Dakota has the death penalty--BUT the feds do. Rodriguez crossed state lines. He kidnapped Dru Sjodin in North Dakota but her body was found in Minnesota. That gives federal jurisdiction--and even if he's tried on a state level, he can also be tried on a federal level. In fact, I'd prefer that he be tried federally so the death penalty can be imposed. That way, Rodriguez wouldn't have years, if not decades, of state appeals before the federal appeals start. He gets two shots at the federal appeals (more if his lawyers are creative), but convicting him federally and, if the death penalty is imposed, definitely shortens the time from conviction to the death penalty being carried out.

Amen. May God Bless Dru's family and friends.

Because the murderer crossed state lines, the Feds can take jurisdiction and they do have the death penalty. It's the least these two leftist states can do to rid the country of this illegal alien killer after letting him off the hook so many times before. Her parents ought to bring charges against the state for Dru's murder.

I thought so but the way Greta was talking...

No need to pay money to release him. He already killed a 14 year old boy and got out. They will let him out sooner or later. 3-7-77........

He gets three shots, I believe he has dual citizenship, Mexican and US, so the International Court of Justice in the Hague also has jurisdiction. No question that they will find some reason call for a retrial if he is convicted.

Did he or his parents not also cross International Borders illegally as well? It is as if we did not have enough American born citizens murdering and raping, we must now endure thousands of foreign illegal aliens doing the same.

>>>>>I guess that you have heard about the serial molester who was released from Orange County, CA jail after being given a life sentence, because the ACLU claimed that his rights had been violated because he didn't get to confront his accuser who committed suicide after the attack.<<<<<<<<
Yes, an excellent example. As resources permit, law enforcement will sometimes surveil these guys when they get out. A group of us had such an assignment one time, and the guy drove in circles in an obvious attempt to shake any tails, yet he couldn't help himself from cruising elementary schools. This was all the day after he was released, and thankfully he had parole conditions enforceable by any LE officer. Recidivism rates for these offenders are extremely high.

No, I do not know but unlikely to find out since our government would never release this fact if he is an illegal. It is not politically correct to acknowledge the existence of illegal aliens and their crimes.

Do you know if Alphonso Rodriguez is an illegal? Not only legal but born here, in Texas if I remember correctly. Second or third generation.

Samantha Smith? She was the girl who wrote a silly love letter to Andropov and was invited to visit the USSR. She was killed in a plane crash two years later.
Perhaps you are thinking of Elizabeth Smart.

John Kerry doesn't support the death penalty for Dru's killer.
A Kerry Justice Dept. will not seek the death penalty for this murderer.

John Kerrys position on capital punishment, in his interview on Meet the Press in December, 2002.
"SEN. KERRY: I think, Tim, as people get to know me in the course of this, theyll know the things that I have fought for and the things I stand for. I was a prosecutor. Ive sent people to jail for the rest of their life. Im opposed to the death penalty in the criminal justice system because I think its applied unfairly, as even Republican governors have determined, and because Im for a worse punishment.
I think it is worse to take somebody and put them in a small cell for the rest of their life, deprived of their freedom, never to be paroled. Now, I think thats tougher. Let me just finish.
MR. RUSSERT: But, Senator, why shouldnt Timothy McVeigh, who blew up the Oklahoma building, or if John Muhammad is convicted of being a sniper here in Washingtonwhy shouldnt they receive the death penalty?
SEN. KERRY: Tim, I think that, as I said, you know, different people have different opinions about whats worse. Ive seen people die and I know what its like to almost die. I dont think thatyou know, dying is scary for a while, but in the end, the punishment is gone. When youre alive and youre deprived of your freedom each day and youre in tough circumstancesand Im talking about tough circumstances. Im not talking about some cushy situation where they live off the fat of the land in prison.. Im talking about tough. But if youre deprived of that freedom for the rest of your living days until God decides to take you, you know, that is tough, my friend, and I think that plenty of people think that.
LOL!!!!
This mental case had better hope they start giving tours of the White House again, because thats the closest to the Oval Office he is ever going to get.

Let's put this in the proper perspective:
This young woman is dead because the people given the responsibility to protect her from people like this Rodriguez POS failed to do so.
Some years ago, Megan Kanka was abducted, sexually assaulted and murdered by a man who was both a convicted sex offender and allowed to live in a halway house. A law was passed that would require released sex offenders to register with state law enforcement and have their names and places of residence released to the public.
Obviously this was not enough to save Dru Sjodin. And I, for one, am sick of it. I am sick of the lame sentencing guidelines for people who commit the crimes of child molestation and rape. I am sick of hearing ad nauseam how these people, upon their release, recommit their crimes and then kill their victims in an attempt to conceal their deed. And I am sick of these apologists and coddlers who claim sex offenders just need psychiatric care and oppose every facet of Megan's Law.
The time has come to call your state legislators and demand they pass legislation that requires a sentence of no less than life without parole for sex offenders. This shall become forever known as Dru's Law. Please ping everyone you know and push as hard as you can to get this law introduced and passed.
Also, if there is anyone out there who designs webpages, please Freepmail me. I am interested in creating a website devoted to this effort.
Just remember: None of you may have known Dru. Will it have to be someone you know before you support Dru's Law?
