Attorney General John Ashcroft came out swinging in testimony before the September 11 Commission on Tuesday. "In 1995, the Justice Department embraced flawed legal reasoning, imposing a series of restrictions on the FBI that went beyond what the law required," he said.

The biggest bombshell to come out of the Commission and hacks like Chris Matthews are still nursing the MoveOn.com widows. What will it take?

Is it possible that her actions were meant to hide from public view the financial (and other) transactions between Klinton and the communist Chinese, to keep it from getting to the FBI? That was some of the same type of strategy the Klintonistas used to get the U.S. laws passed to keep medical files secret, to protect Klinton.

Gorelick shouldn't be on the panel, that's pretty obvious.

But I'm wondering who on this partisan Commission would have the cajones to actually grill her about "the wall" even were she to have been a witness.

Gorelick worked for Janet Reno, and it was Reno who repeatedly erected impediments such as "the wall", not to mention the convoluted presidential directives which led G. Tenant and his field operatives to believe that killing OBL might land them in jail (well-documented in Steve Coll's "Ghost Wars").

It was Reno, and Reno alone, who singlehandedly hamstrung the DoJ, the FBI, the WH, and the CIA. (As an aside, in her testimony Reno mentioned that post-Cold War, the "FBI no longer had a mission," which caused me to immediately think that she chartered them with the new mission of fighting the hobgoblin of "domestic terrorism", which would have been entirely consistent with the prohibitions created by "the wall").

In any case no one raised any question of substance with Reno - nor did she get more than a few sentences of press coverage anywhere - because from the get-go she artfully put the commission on notice that she couldn't rememeber the difference between classified and unclassified issues. That pretty much threw a bucket of cold water on her appearance and the notion of getting anything factual from her testimony. Vintage Reno.

The Clinton Administration certainly had a lot to hide.

It is most likely that Reno was a figurehead, and Gorelick was the Clinton operative, protector and shadow AG. Reno has never given a direct answer to anything. She is and was a puppet.

And she is on record praising Gorelick for protecting the principles of our Constitution - re safeguarding the rights of accused - by builiding this very Wall. The rights of Americans to be safe on our own soil is secondary to the rights of someone who has entered "the Justice Process" aka criminal accusation/indictment.

The fact that Gorelick WITHHELD pertinent information from
her fellow commissioners, and when it was exposed on
national television, not one of them had a word of criticism,
let alone outrage, puts the lie to the claim that this commission
is interested in "finding the truth" about the causes of 911.
