Rabbi Jay Litvin JERUSALEM (AP) - Rabbi Jay Litvin, a leader of the rescue organization Children of Chernobyl, died Thursday, said a spokesman for Chabad, the Orthodox Jewish movement that founded the organization. He was 60.
Litvin worked as medical liaison of the aid group that lifted children out of the area of the 1986 nuclear disaster in the Ukraine, said the spokesman, Zalman Shmotkin.
In addition to about 4,400 people initially killed by the Chernobyl accident, more than 2 million others were later hospitalized with related illnesses, including 473,400 children. In dozens of trips to the region, Litvin coordinated the immigration of children to foreign countries or their medical treatment.
Litvin was born in 1944 in Chicago. He lived for several years in Wisconsin and Arizona where he was integral in the local Chabad movements after becoming a devout Jew at the age of 37. He immigrated to Israel in 1993.
Although he had no medical background, Litvin became an expert on cancer through his work with the Ukrainian children and worked closely with international aid groups in the region.
Litvin contracted cancer in 2000.
Two years ago Litvin began writing a weekly column on the Chabad.org web site. His subjects included how he dealt with cancer, parenting and spirituality.
--- Pat Parson
NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (AP) - Pat Parson, the retired WCBS news anchor whose rich baritone informed and entertained radio audiences in the New York metropolitan area for 20 years, died Thursday of cancer. He was 65.
The Newark native, whose real name was Pasquale D. Tominaro, joined the all-news station in 1970 and co-hosted the afternoon news until he retired in 1990.
Parson graduated in 1960 from Seton Hall University, where he worked at the school's radio station. He was inducted in WSOU-FM's hall of fame in 1992.
He began his career as a newscaster at WNBF in Binghamton, N.Y., and later became news director at WERA in Plainfield.
After retiring from WCBS, Parson built and owned WQNJ-FM in Stafford Township, where he also anchored the morning newscasts until selling the station in 1996.

This is nor related, but I was talking with my son today during a movie and Zsa Zsa Gabor was mentioned. I haven't heard a thing about her since she was injured in a car accident quite a while back. Does anyone know an update?

Thanks. I know Zsa Zsa was born before light, but she always maintained an air about her that pretended to be youthful. I also know she is one of those famous folks that is famous for being famous. She's one of those "tabloid" personalities from MY youth...and I sat as one of the elders on the Titanic's welcoming commitee.

I went to where I should have gone in the first place...Deadoralive.com. They have her listed as born february 6, 1917. That sight doesn't post a date until they KNOW. So she's 87. The Titanic had been down five years before the ol'gal was born.
I remember in the mid to late 1960's she was trying to pass herself off as "40-ish". Then it came to light that she was Miss Hungary in 1937. She claimed the records were wrong.
Zsa Zsa was always the MOST of the Gabors. Come to find out, it was really Eva. Hotcakes, Darling?
