I meant that the Jews were ruled by the Romans at the time, and that some Jewish lawyers benefitted in some ways from sucking up to the Romans.

That's an interesting reaction. I don't agree with Catholicism, and that's my right in the USA, so far. That could change, though, with so many Protestants becoming so Catholic in this country.
