Not former at the time of the statements, but fully aware that he was on his way out. He knew exactly how the Bush administration felt about him and his subordinates.

Maybe, since you're so wise, you ought to have been a general

All his suck wasn't going to get him flag rank like forebearers and he knew it.

I'm not a real big fan of McCain. But, I did hear him on Sean Hannity's show driving home this afternoon...and he was way more supportive of the war and the President than this CNN piece portrays.

I heard McCain too and I agree with you. McCain may be a pain at times, but he will fight the enemy and he is no traitor.

I agree. McCain "gets" the war in Iraq....and every now and then his soul's conviction wins his personal battle between truth and being a media star.

Today on Sean's radio show McCain's soul won.

Why do you automatically discount the idea that perhaps they have asked Rummy for more troops but have been denied. If that is the case, they would very likely never claim that they had asked.

I have a good impression of Rumsfeld, although I believe some stubborn mistakes have been made since Baghdad fell. I am neither a liar nor angry at Rumsfeld, but this seems perfectly plausible to me. High level administration people disagree all the time, and most of the time you don't hear about it b/c that is better for the administration as a whole. We're just now getting hints that Cheney and Condi Rice might have a strong dislike for each other.

I certainly don't know, but I would not just automatically discount the idea and use the word "liar" towards anybody who believes this is indeed a possibility.

If Kerry wins, you won't need a one way ticket to Cuba-Kerry's a socialist. We can enjoy a Cuba like experience right here in the good old USA-complete with government medical insurance, higher taxes and more regulation of business- not to mention the inevitable recession. We can expect terrorists to breathe a sigh of relief now that a Democrat is back in the Whitehouse and begin planning a special event for New York or perhaps Washington. Also, I don't see the witch hunt(9-11 commission) going on as beneficial to anyone. The Democrats are not interested in finding out the truth and neither is McCain. I'll say it again without any shame-now is not the time to examine President Bush's so called mistakes. It is time we pull together and re-elect President Bush-thus consigning both terrorism and John Kerry to the dustbins of history.

I used the term 'liar' against someone who made a statement as though it was fact, when I know it to be not true. I did not mean that for anyone who has doubts about Rummy. I discount the idea that troops were asked for earlier than last week, because I know it to be a false assumption. I thought by now that most freepers knew that I used to work in the Pentagon, and still have many friends there to this day. There is no truth to any rumor about Cheney and Condi disliking each other, I don't know where that comes from, but I can tell you it is false. Pay no attention to people like Sid Blumenthol who are known to be suggesting such things.

I can tell you that early on, Rumsfeld called a number of people on the carpet for not having comprehensive, workable war plans for each member of the 'axis of evil'. The plans were dated and out of assumptions based on Clinton era intelligence. No one was happy to be given work out of the box regarding Iraq, NK and Iran. He made enemies. He forced the lazy brass to do their jobs, which if had been done earlier, the P-3 incident with China might have never occurred.

I know first hand the arrogance of the Navy fighter pilot, and Rumsfeld is no slouch in that area. If he made any mistakes, I would offer that he kept too many slackers. In addition, Tommy Franks was nobody's first choice for the assignments he got. There are strong disagreements within the White House that leak out from time to time, but they center around a feeling that Bush is ill-served some folks whose names I wont mention.

There was never, ever a denial of troops to those responsible for the mission. There are unhappy people (the same ones who talk to McCain) who think they know better than their superiors, and when they don't get their way, they run to Congress, who in turn run to the Media. I have not automatically discounted anyone. I am only against those with an agenda against Rumsfeld who don't know what they are talking about. Opinions are fine, but facts require proof.

Fair enough. And trust me, I don't pay any attention to Blumenthol. I've heard the Condi-Cheney thing from many people, including conservative sources. And it will be discussed everywhere when Woodward's book comes out, whether it's true or not.

The true conflict is between Cheney and Powell. Powell expected to be the VP by now after a Cheney health retirement. Many do not trust Powell due to his refusal to clean house at the State dept.

Field Marshal McCain is merely a media darling.

What the Allied failure is, is nothing but our political failure to admit openly that islam is the problem with islam's Terror War on America and Civilization.

We must read their holy scriptures, starting with koran and haddith.

After 500 years, the Post-WWII's trillions of petro-dollars has allowed islam to reawaken its koran commanded world conquest through invasion and treachery - and now nukes. War crimes and mass murder terror are islam's warfare stock and trade.

This war is a war of annihilation, or we shall lose it and our children's children's futures.
