I believe it DOES say Yo! Dude! Get Thee To The Mosque!, bbut before that I believe itsays something about "The Is No God But Allah and Mohammed (Pbuh) Is His Messenger!", and I think you'd have to call that proseletyzing.

Also, I'm not sure you have to get to the mosque when you hear it, I think it's ok to point toward Mecca and drop and stick your butt in the air, face on the floor.

I've lived next door to a minaret and next door to a tight-radius elevated turn on the NY Subway, where it sounds like they are trying to pull a subway car through a sewer pipe, 54 times a day. The screeching and banging were enough to rattle your fillings.

But all in all, I would prefer the mechanical noise to the amplified voice. The human mind can "program out" almost any mechanical noise. The Islamic call to prayer is specifically designed to be impossible to ignore.

You actually don't even have to hear it - an engineer I used to work with kept a tiny little prayer rug in his cubicle, and he knew perfectly well when the prayer times were. If he was in the office, he'd knock off for a few minutes & pray. It forced me to keep my desk fairly clean, since he faced in that direction - no one should have to look at a sty when they're praying.
