London-AP -- Head-banging heavy metal music may be o-k to listen to while driving -- but stay away from some of the older classical stuff.
Britain's R-A-C Foundation has named Richard Wagner's (VAHG'-nurz) fast-paced "Ride of the Valkyries" (VAL'-keer-eez) as the top tune not to listen to while behind the wheel -- because it says research shows loud music can cause accidents.
Three modern songs also made the top five, including "Firestarter" by the Prodigy.
The foundation also provided a top-five list of songs that can be played safely while driving -- though it cautions the volume should be kept down.
That list includes the Norah Jones hit "Come Away with Me."

"Ride of the Valkyries" is Air Cav music, not beach music.

Huh. Was driving around last weekend with the "ride" on full blast. Didn't hit no one, neither.

When Wagner is outlawed, only outlaws will have Wagner.

Lance: "Music?"
Kilgore: Yah. I use Wagner. It scares the hell out of the Slopes."

Just lighten up on the napalm.

I always thought it would be Highway Star by Deep Purple. LOL. That and pretty much anything by Motorhead. Was playing "Ace of Spades" once, coming up I-95 late at night, and caught the needle on the wrong side of 80. :)

Beethoven's Ninth
Carmina Burana (when it's raining)

I want the cd of the Ninth that Bernstein did at the Wall when it came down. The german choral work was out of sight and I only have it on tape.

Years ago, I was driving home one afternoon with the classical station on.
The "dj" comes on, and says "The next selection is Rossini's William Tell Overture (Lone Ranger theme), and if you are
driving, please be careful as the music can be quite stimulating...."

Wonder if anybody in Iraq has put loudspeakers on Blackhawks yet?
To: KC Burke
I got a collection of all his symphonies done by the German National Orchestra and Choir. It is nothing short of fantastic.

If I want to tool thru the mountains on a trip, there is little to beat the Celtic Music of Silly Wizard, turned way up.
