We should demand that Kofi step down and extensive reforms take place before we deal with the UN again. I'd prefer we tell them to get stuffed.....

Bremer supported this? Something sounds fishy here.

The UN coddles dictators and gives them traction...they should cease to exist, especially on American soil, with our $$$$. Get the united states of America OUT of the UN - NOW!

Hans Blix in an envoy role :-?
United Nations (news - web sites) special envoy Lakhdar Brahimi gestures during a press conference held in Baghdad. Brahimi said that it was 'imperative' a political solution be reached in the standoff between the US-led coalition and Shiite Muslim leader Moqtada Sadr and that elections planned in Iraq (news - web sites) next January were an 'important milestone' in the country's march toward for democracy.(AFP/Antonio Scorza)

Sounds like Bremer is sending a signal to the Iraqi Governing Council to get their act together - they can be replaced.

Fine, but is the Governing Council going to agree to being disbanded?
To: Ingtar
The UN is overseeing the transition to a constitutional democracy in Afghanistan, and it is in our interest that they are involved, to the extent they are helping further democratization. The President's policy has been to get the UN involved in the transitional arrangements and election planning in Iraq as well. It helps to get the US somewhat off the hook, while building international "legitimacy" for those foolish enough to look to the UN for such things.
To: NormsRevenge
This was the plan all along, and what the President said he was going to do last night.

The UN coddles dictators and gives them traction Like Khazakstan and Uzbekistan... Oh, I forgot, they're the ones we're coddling.

Precisely, it's bad enough that the left twists the minds of American citizens who aren't paying close attention, but they are also affecting outcomes - NEGATIVELY - of international events in which our country holds a stake. The dark side in action...

Let me guess ... Kofi Annan, Hans Blix, John Kerry, and Hillary Clinton.

It seems that the UN only has experience running Socialist and Dictatorial countries. I cannot believe we would allow them to pollute the process of freedom in either country.

Ahhhh, so it's "imperative" to appease an anti-coalition, anti-US outcast radical cleric with very little public support. Friend$-of-Tyrants UN alert!

Considering that Kofi Annan (when will we be rid of this fool?) recently declared Iraq "Too Violent" for the UN, I don't think they have any place to comment.
