Gabi Canales was a Chicken D! A lot of republicans crossed over and voted against her yesterday!

"These two did not represent their districts well," Democratic Party Chairman Charles Soechting said. "They ran as Democrats but never voted like Democrats." Democrats have rejected a total of seven party incumbents from the House in the March primary and Tuesday's runoff.
Gee, the Commies seem to have mellowed a bit. Once upon a time, didn't they defenestrate their fallen-out-of-favor comrades when they had a purge? Maybe they couldn't find a handy open window...

With the gradual disappearance of the conservative Democrat in Texas and the Republican majority that finally came in 2002 there is also the loss of the "bipartisan tone" that the press was always so happy about (realizing that the Dems' days were numbered). This loss is conservatives' gain.
The losing representatives that maintained some connections with the Republicans in power, even if they were with the Chicken Ds, were probably more useful to their constituents than the flamethrower wing of the Dems. For example, prior to his elimination by the party machine, Ron Wilson (a Craddick ally in addition to NOT being a Chicken D) did accomplish getting the new Congressional District in Houston for black Democrats. Then again, maybe Democrats do not want to enter into a minority mentality, as the Bob Michel Republicans functioned in the US Congress pre-Newt.

"A lot of republicans crossed over and voted against her yesterday!"Be hard to do that if they'd previously voted in the GOP primary - it'd be against the law.
