We lived in CT for over 40 years and the subtle racism is just as you described, all committed by the self-named 'elites'.
My husband retired at 55 (I'm considerably younger than he is) 6 years ago and moved to South Carolina. You know - where every white person is assumed to be racist?
Interestingly enough, what I have witnessed is the exact polar opposite of the racism I've seen up north. The races treat each other with such dignity and respect - polite, sweet, talking with each other.
It's been an eye opener and pleasing to watch.

Great comment. My sister visited us a few years back, and was shocked by the friendliness of the residents here in Texas. She's from Oakland, CA...'nuff said.
I became a naturalized Texan about 20 years ago, and have no intentions of ever leaving.

Shhhh... it is a secret. No one up North is going to believe you anyway.
