Oh, I don't know, probably the amount of time they have spent in outright obstruction of US policies, supposedly because of "prinicples" yet it turns out they were complicit in the "Oil for Fraud" program. Along with obviously not having a problem with leaving a genocidal dictator in power. You know, simple things, details if you will.
I can see why France didn't want a "war for oil." They were making far to much money under UN auspices letting Saddam sell it and getting kickbacks along with laundering the money through their banks.

"Give France a break," says French ambassador to the United States Jean-David Levitte, writing in the Los Angeles Times. He said allegations that France condoned kickbacks or took bribes "are completely false and can only have been an effort to discredit France, a longtime friend and ally of the U.S."
Trying to make nice? SORRY!! The french political leadership was in bed with Saddam. I predict the next french elections to turn out quite differently than those in Spain.

Oh, I don't know, don't you conveniently overlook other kinds of "details" ? Like, we sent troops in Afghanistan to fight the Taliban with you, our soldiers hunt OBL side by side with US forces, our intelligence services fully cooperate with their US counterparts ? You know, simple things, details if you will...

"Asked about the allegations by Insight, Maugein denied he was involved with either company, although he did acknowledge knowing their principals, with whom he had worked as an oil trader with Marc Rich in Switzerland."
There are also strong rumblings (pretty good evidence) that Marc Rich paid Bill Clinton between $150-500 million but he is having difficulty getting the money to him. It is still in overseas bank accounts. The Bush Administration is aware of this and other such payments.

Yes, a few troops as window dressing to mask what was going on in the background. Nothing like putting people's lives in danger, while playing diplomatic games and stealing money from the Iraqi people. Money that was supposed to go for humanitarian relief.
The French soldiers who are in harms way in Afghanistan are nothing more than a diplomatic version of the old magicians trick of "watch my right hand while I steal with the left."
The bravery of the French soldiers and intelligence officers in Afghanistan is to be commended while the cynical use of them by the French government is to be condemned.

No quarrel with condemning our former Foreign Minister (and, since Foreign Affairs are a presidential domain, our current President). Personally, I'd gladly see de Villepin rolled in tar and feathers for having so badly damaged an alliance his elders and betters had forged in blood and iron.

There is no way on this good earth that anyone could convince me that Bill & Hill aren't up to their eyeballs in this. We all know it! I'd give anything for a hard-link!
Bump with a venting comment.

"Chairman Hyde has sent two letters to Assistant Secretary of State Kim Holmes requesting that State provide full documentation of the oil-for-food program, including commercial contracts. Since the United States is a permanent member of the Security Council and a leading member of the U.N. Sanctions Committee, State has access to the full United Nations record but has been unwilling to make incriminating information public until now for fear of angering U.S. allies. France accounted for approximately 25 percent of all U.N.-approved trade with Iraq, according to an estimate by the CIA."
Sheesh!

In a scathing letter sent to U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan on March 3, which he made available to Insight, Hankes-Drielsma called the U.N. program "one of the world's most disgraceful scams," and said that "based on the facts as I know them at the present time, the U.N. failed in its responsibility to the Iraqi people and the international community at large." But John Kerry wants the UN to be in charge in Iraq. That is akin to wanting to make Bonnie and Clyde bank directors.

Hmmm, maybe that's what the 911 Commish is all about: keeping everyone busy and off the mark so all this stuff about Klintoon doesn't come to light. Problem is, there's probably too much of it, and we haven't even addressed North Korea and China.
