the bust of Lincoln over the President's right shoulder is fascinating... I've been thinking recently of the 1864 election...in the middle of a difficult war, with divided opinion in the North...I didn't notice the Lincoln bust -- awesome! And no mistake about it. I did hear the President make the case that we musn't change horses mid-stream. I'm with him on that.
When we look back upon an historical event, we see the end result as defining of earlier events. We must never forget that actors in the moment had no idea of the outcome. The best of them acted upon principle, and achieved it. So it is for President Bush.
