Ashcroft said several things, but the most devastating was his reference to a 1995 Clinton DOJ regulation that placed additional restrictions on communications between the FBI and CIA, restrictions which Ashcroft claimed significantly hindered the war on terror. And the author of those regulations was none other than Democratic commission member Jamie Gorelick. That was not what the Gore-lick memo was about. Her memo was about building a wall between criminal investigations within the FBI and intelligence investigations within the FBI. It had nothing to do with the CIA.
It might have been a bombshell, except it was pointed out that Ashcroft did virtually nothing to tear down the wall before 9/11.

Yes, having been in office something less that 233 days (I don't remember how long the confirmation process was) you would think that he could have changed the entire governmental process? Obviously he caused this entire mess.
