Even though the brave men who fought at the Alamo weren't technically Texans--

Actually they were, or most of them anyway. Texas Independence was declared March 2, 1836, four days before the fall of the Alamo. Even before the declaration, they were citizens of the Mexican province of Tejas. I think the Anglos among them (the majority) preferred "Texican" to "Texan" anyway. The others were known as Tejanos, and still are today as a matter of fact.
