As a daughter of the Republic of Texas I thank you for the article. It burns me up that little or no mention is made of Texas Independence Day either in our schools or in public but every year they celebrate Fiesta Patrias and Cinco de Mayo like it's going out of style.

Since when did it become a sin to be proud to be a Texan and proud of our heritage?

Well certainly not in San Antonio. We have a ten day (or so) celebration every year to mark the victory of Houston over Santa Ana. It's called simply Fiesta, and IIRC, it starts this Friday, the 16 of April. It's a real multicultural event. Everything from a place Hermann's Happiness (sponsored by the Son's of Hermann, a German-Texan fraternal organization) to the St. Mary's Oyster bake, which features music from modern rock (or whatever) to oldies rock and roll to country to Tejano and some cross pollinated stuff.

Since they tried to get Texans to forget their REAL original Lone Star flag.
