There is absolutely nothing wrong with hose with sandals or otherwise open shoes.

I learned that from show room models in the New York haute couture industry of the 50s and 60s, including my own mother.

I have Southern roots and my dear grannies would roll over in their graves if I did not wear hose with my dress up sandals etc. I do remember one of my aunties telling me it was okay to go hose-less if one had a deep tan on their legs and it was very. very hot and you were at an outside affair. Alas, I never tan so I could not take advantage of this reprieve.
