I have personally heard the men complain about the bare backs, etc., of some of the women, saying they can't concentrate on the sermon, the worship, etc. The men have gone to the pastor and asked him to ask the women to please cover themselves. The pastor has passed on the message and his heart was in it.

I understand your point Gretchee .. and if you notice .. she is covered and wearing a sweater

Hose are never worn with open-toed or open-heeled shoes.

If you live on an island or in the desert, maybe; a lot of places don't consider you totally dressed unless you have on hose.

FWIW, my profile page aside, I do know how and when to dress properly. For instance, right now I'm wearing a tasteful olive-green pantsuit with teensy cream pinstripes.

My dear woman I am not surprised given that you are in thrall to the idea that men would complain to their pastor that the bare backs of women were distracting them from their prayers. And that the men would tut tut over that and make announcements at Church to the effect that the women should cover themselves. For crying out loud.

i have not called you a troll, and i am not infuriated by your opinion, once it is couched as such. but you have a tendency, herein, to state your opinion as if it were objective fact. i have stated that i did not care for either dress. i find them less than attractive, but NOT inappropriate. wearing a jean jacket, while lamentable is not a sin. i am betting, since it doesn't look remotely stylish, that it was strictly because she had nothing else at hand.

BTW Howlin mentioned slips upthread,,,do young women, do any women wear slips anymore? I do not believe I own one. I haven't seen a slip in years. I guess in knits or thin dresses but I don't wear that kind of dress. and the shoes are perfectly fashionable for young women. People are awfully fast to criticize two young women who are doing a family duty, pleasing their parents, grands and the troops. I just hate that when people do that to young people. It is not really our business you know.

If the skirt is unlined, a slip goes under it. That is NOT negotiable. I still own slips of varying lengths, but most of my skirts are lined.

It is slatternly to neglect the proper undergarments.

Speaking as an OLD VET, who remembers his youth, I can firmly state that the BUSH daughters "FASHION" statement was MOST WELCOME and probably will be the TALK of the WARDS for weeks to come. I can think of nothing more MORALE BOOSTING than two fashion conscience young ladies visiting our wounded soldiers.

"quit digging on Laura Bush for not forcing them to dress as she does"

I am not digging on Laura Bush. I have the highest respect for Laura Bush. I did not write that Laura ought to force them to dress as she does.

I wrote that I thought that Laura might have given a word to the wise.

There is plenty of middle ground between dressing as they did and dressing as Laura does. Laura dresses very nicely for a woman of her age. The twins might have dressed better, IMHO.

Why does my opinion have so many of you in such a huff? Is it thought to be beyond the pale to make any remark whatsoever on how the twins dress?

... and i don't agree with you or your lack of taste and twisted view of what is or isn't appropriate.
how do you know she wore the jacket to church?
although denim jacket on white cotton dress or whatever is pretty standard wear in Texas, in church or not, Easter or not, and is considered conservative by most everybody but you.

and a sweater over spaghetti straps is very modest. more modest that a "sheath" dress that you say your daughter wore. most "sheath" dress's are shorter that either dress the Bush daughters wore.
so maybe you should watch what your little angel wears to church too eh?

Where are you getting this fashion "tips?"

If a skirt is lined, you do NOT have to wear a slip with it.

Just curious, do you still wear crinolines and a garter belt?

Did they have on hose? They do make sandal foot hose and those special hose for open toed shoes, the ones cut out in front. I couldn't tell if they had on hose. But I think the hosiery rule has gone. Unlike the underpants rule. Altho I have a sister who tells me underpants are passe.

I am not commenting on her hair, as I said above, as I have "problematic" hair, if you will.

That being said, if I had the bucks SHE has, my hair would NOT look like that, you can believe it!

I'm sure this has already been said many times, but I doubt and of the servicemen they visisted had any problem with the way either of them are dressed. And isn't that really the more important issue?

They are young. They should dress young while they can. Everyone made fun of Chelsea Clinton for dressing like she was 65 and now everyone is making fun of these girls for dressing like they are 22.

Damn! I love the word "slatternly". You are winning my adoration with your rules. I only wear lined skirts and pants thus obviating the slip rule. I always found them pesky myself.

Have you seen what wedding dresses are in style these days, strapless. They are married in a church with no straps or sleeve these days, the twins look great and they are very attractive women.

I wear slips, just because when I wear them...the dresses/skirts lay better (don't bunch up) and get less wrinkled...I do not believe my daughter wears them (she's 25)...even tho I purchased them for her when she was younger...I could be wrong...most women here at work don't seem to wear them...and to be honest some of THEM ought to since the silhouette of their butts and thighs...is well pretty damn disgusting and should be left to the imagination...
