Since the border with Iran is absolutely porous - isn't this about as effective as Fred Flintstone putting out the cat at night? Why is it that we have to accept this asymmetry - they can kill out troops and civilian contractors and yet we have to avoid sending them into martyrdom. I don't think this is a smart bargain.

Why don't they just kill him? Negotiating escapes for rabble rousers just lets them get away, keep their contacts in the country from which they were exiled, get stronger, and try again. Think Arafat.
Unless, of course, we're thinking of annihilating Iran and Sadr along with it, which I don't believe to be very likely.

Stupid idea. Just like the Israelis freeing terrorists who then come back to murder them.
This capitulation to murder will also show weakness and surrender and encourage even more.
The murderous terrorist should have been grounded. Last week.

Why in the world do we want to avoid his being humiliated? Apparently, we have killed about 600 of his people so far. We shold finish the job instead of giving him the opportunity to save the day.
This reminds me of when Sharon was forced to let Arafat leave Beirut for Tunis in 1982, only to see Shimon Peres and his pals bring him back to tyrannize the West Bank as part of the Oslo debacle.

Iran may not want him. If he continued to promote terrorism from Iran that would give us the excuse to invade Iran.

That would be cool if we acceppt this 'unconditional surrender' of Sadr and then reveal Tehran's part in this.. (but I doubt it will happen)
To: bayourod
He is being funded by Iran. They can have him.

We will wait until the holy days are over........then we will take is army out....and leave him to the other Mullahs.
I saw something today that Sistani is moving to counter Sadr behind the scenes.

I hope so. I suspect, actually, that even the mad mullahs of Iran wouldn't want him - he's too much of a loose cannon.

We are making a HUGE mistake if we let the Saddam remnants in Fallujah live, You heard it here first.

Iran is always trying to look responsible and rational, on the surface, while busily funding and training terrorists; it's hard to say "which Iran" we're dealing with at any given moment.

Do you realize how badly we have mauled the terrorists in Fallujah......600+ dead(thats just the ones brought to the hospital) unknown number of dead buried in collapsed buildings.

John except for the Apache getting shot down today.......notice how quiet Iraq has become?
The reason is that behind the scenes we are arresting Sadr's people in the south...I saw that tidbit in a Washington Post article that freeper wretchard highlighted on his blog.

No we need to capture his sick dead ass. Put him in a cell and provide for him as this.
Food: Anything pork... pork rinds, ham, bacon, sausage, chops, ribs.... Nothing but pork... Drink: Anything alcoholic and nothing else... No sink or toilet for the sand dog to drink out of...
Numerous video cameras always on to watch him and see if he can avoid the unpure food/drink or if he eats any.
Could be televised on PPV to cover the costs.
