"You cannot deal with people like this. I ignore them and refuse to engage, simply telling them that they are entitled to their opinion. I also would request no more e-mail."

Actually I emailed him first, slamming the newsweek tax article. He's said some things though that can be rebutted. He's an attorney, and even if he "appears" to be beyond reach, he actually takes what I say to him and it makes a difference even if he doesn't admit it. He's softened up a bit in recent years. We go to his place in East Texas and he and I will stay up late into the night talking about this stuff. I'd like to win him over to some degree because he's a pretty vocal advocate on the left (as I used to be).

Since you want to try, the first thing I'd do is hit him with the news reports of the results of the media consortium's recount results. Ask him if his boy won, why is it that he at no time actually held the lead in Florida. Ask him if "full, fair, and accurate" recount means blocking even the initial counting of military (known to vote Republican) votes and counting disqualified ballots in three out of 67 counties (surprise, the most heavily democrat infested counties). Ask him what's full, fair, and accurate about such selective counting, and by the way, what's full, fair or accurate about "devining the intent" of a voter who did not make a presidential selection on a ballot or who punched two selections.

I didn't read beyond the "Bush stole the election" garbage, so I won't address any of his other gripes.
