Actually the northerners who move down here (SC in my case) are usually the among the most conservative people in their former states. I think this is the rule over most of the South (the opposite was true in Durham, NC where I was POA [prisoner of academia] for 11 years - but that was because of Duke University). The result is the South is more conservative and the North more liberal. I call it conservative flight.
Someone said no one in their right mind would live in Philly. The fact that liberals love the place indicates just how true that statement is.

Isn't Philly the city where the Mayor dropped a bomb that took out an entire city block? Not even Janet Reno was that stupid.

It's only temporary. They all went to Harrisburg to work in the Rendell administration.

I wonder now if Philadelphia will still be able to report 104% voter turnout this November like they did in the 2000 election...

Ah, another example of conservative flight. We probably couldn't get Walter Williams to go back if we put a .45 to his head.

I think the last mayoral race's better man, Sam Katz and his wife too, might agree, if they could speak freely -- after the way the union goons treated his wife at Katz rallies.

It looks like Philadelphia city and county merged in 1854. Was there some other merger you're referring to?

TAXES TAXES TAXES. Somehow I have the feeling that a "liberal" politician in their infinite wisdom will make that "TAXES TAXES TAXES and more TAXES" to help insure the reversal of this trend in Philadelphia's demise.

For all the trashing I have meted out to Philly, I have to agree. The market under the old Reading Terminal is perhaps the best in the nation. The Italian market in South Philly is nearly as good. If Fairmont Park were cleaned up, it would be magnificent. The restaurants of Chinatown are varied and wonderful. There are many other examples.
These things only make the current condition of Philly that much more despicable. To ruin such a potentially great city is truly an accomplishment for liberals. They should hang their heads in shame!

Frank was tough on crime, but he wasn't very good on taxes. He put through some big tax increases that have yet to be rolled back. Philly's biggest problem is that wage tax -- it continues to destroy the city.
Plus, Rizzo ran the city too much like his personal kingdom. So he never made any real changes in how the city was run. He didn't do what Giuliani did with NYPD appointees -- change an institution. If you don't institutionalize your policies, then those policies (i.e. tough on crime) fade away once you're out of office.

I got a vague recollection of hearing that the city got some unincoporated land -- maybe in the Great Northeast.

Could the census numbers in the city of brotherly love have been slightly "inflated?" Har har, let's cross check this to see if 117% of voting-age Philadelphians voted for Sore/Loserman.

Recently saw a survey that ranked Philadelphia as a city with the best "Chick to Guy" ratio ... meaning women out numbered men, ratio wise, nearly 3 to 2. The same survey ranked "murder capital USA" Gary, IN very high as well. That simply means, for those aware of demographics, that certain male types insist on killing off one another at an alarming rate. In this PC world I won't delve any further ... you can draw your own conclusion.

I wonder now if Philadelphia will still be able to report 104% voter turnout this November like they did in the 2000 election... It all depends upon the diligence of the poll workers and the amount of determination of some politicians. Who knows, it could go to 150% with the impeccable savvy of a seasoned politician who carries no respect for what is right and lawful!! LoL's!
