What Iraq needs far more than these sentimental bloggers is freedom fighters who are less talk and more action. Why doesn't this kid organize pro-coalition rallies with his likeminded friends? If all they can do is express their solidarity with our cause in cyberspace, I think we're in trouble.

My thoughts exactly - I'm glad that he appreciates freedom - but does he have the balls to defend that fragile gift. Will he and all who feel like him become as militant as the rabid, brainwashed mobs controlling the streets, and overwhelm them with numbers and conviction!

Freedom is not free!! It isn't something someone can give you, it is something you must earn. Are there enough Iraquis willing to fight and die for it? That is the $87 Billion dollar question.

nice blog. Poetic. warm'n'fuzzies.

Now, somebody please tell this guy to cut the touchy-feely bullshit, strap on a '16, and do something for his countrymen like cleaning up the remaining vermin.

Only when they defend their country, are willing to die for their freedom - only when they do for themselves what we are now doing, will the Iraqis truly be free.

Goosebumps. A lyric stuck in my head - "'cause I don't remember - what we're fighting for". Thanks for posting this.

Bump to keep. He will get his chance to fight. For now it is enough to remember the regular people would NOT prefer that Saddam were still in power as the Blixies and Kerrries of the world would tell you.

"How could I have thanked that soldier enough?..."

Hey Mo - If you really want to thank him - organize a "pro-democracy" group, head to the streets, and condemn the IslamoNazi's and cry out for the protection of your freedoms!!! That's what you should be doing instead of writing opinion pieces.

For the Silent Majority in Iraq who say they want freedom and peace, your time has come.

The US has won you your freedom - You, the Iraqi people, will have to win the peace.

This isnt exactly what you are looking for, but in a SMALL way, many of the Iraqi people are indeed defying these thugs.

On April 8, Omar, reported this on the blog:

Thursday, April 08, 2004

:: The "Islamic resistence" called for a general strike in Baghdad next Saturday. A shop keeper told me this morning that the "resistence men" ordered him to close his shop before afternoon and that he should also close the shop on Saturday.

Leaflets have been distributed cotaining a call for a strike with a threat that says "anyone who disobeys this order shall be punished".

I know that a strike is a self-chosen protest method used to express refusal for something or to ask for some demands, but this?! I don't know what to call it.

Yet today, Omar reports the following:

Saturday, April 10, 2004

:: The strike -that the terrorists called for- didn't take place the way they desired; I wandered a lot in Baghdad today and I can assume that more than 50% of the shopkeepers refused to submit to the thugs' threats but in A'adhamiya, the situation is different, almost all the shops are closed today as there were intense clashes between the fedayeen and the coalition troops, heavy gunfire and explosions were heard in the morning.

The traffic activity in Baghdad is normal and the whole city is quiet except A'adhamiya, even that Ali and I today met a journalist and a photographer from the (USA today). We spent more than 3 hours together during which we had a lot of conversation; we had lunch in a restaurant in Karrada and they made an interview with us about the Iraqi blogs. Later we all went to an internet cafe' to show them more details about our blog work.
