I think Randall Terry is right though ---- I think most homosexuals really don't choose to be that and they aren't born that way either --- something happens to them very early in their lives, often something the parents may never know about --- sexual abuse, but maybe other factors too. It seems to me that many lesbians talk about physical and emotional abuse very early in their lives.

You're obviously a Randall Terry fan who is going to great lengths to dismiss the relevance of what sinkspur has been posting. You seem to think no matter how messed up his own life, it has no bearing on his son or his relationship with his son. What world do you live in?

This is not intended as a criticism of you or Sinkspur, but personally, I always look at it as a red flag when I find that the homosexual and abortion activist groups are taking the same position on a subject as a conservative. In such instances, one has to wonder if the conservative has not had the wool pulled over his eyes by the Machievellian tactics of the leftists. Even the best intentioned and most principled among us can, from time to time, find ourselves manipulated into becoming useful to the left.

Rather than pity me as a naive and manipulated conservative, try to conceive that possibly it's your assessment that's mistaken. There are different varieties of conservatives. Most here would consider themselves social conservatives. I am not a social conservative. I am a libertarian conservative.

I do not find homosexuals threatening or repugnant. I view them pretty much with neutrality. I don't think the average homosexual is Machiavellian. I do find the manner in which they're treated by most social conservatives to be appalling, as well as counter-productive. That's why I'm frequently on here criticizing the bellicostity and denigration that some Freepers direct towards homosexuals.

I think son needed a rude awakening and from what I know of Randall Terry, he got it all out in the open and probably won't belabor the items that he mentioned.

Maybe it's tough love? Randall Terry has a full schedule and I don't see him milking this.

This is probably the first time I've seen a homosexual, Out magazine and CNN receive a pass on this forum. The credibility of Randall Terry isn't pristine. Nobody claimed that. What I and a few others did claim was that he had a right to respond to the article and the interview.

While Terry shouldn't get a complete pass, neither should a son who is of age and carrying on as he is.

Not a single one of you guys groaned at anything the son did, or Out Magazine or CNN. You don't find that worthy of observation?

Please point out where I suggested Terry's fundraising tactics were proper. Please also explain how in a society that experiences 50% plus divorce rates, how anything Terry did in relation to his divorce was a crime.

What we have here is a father who has unquestionably made some mistakes, and is continuing to do so. We also have a son who has made mistakes and is continuing to do so. The kid gets a free pass and the father is the cause of everything. It doesn't matter that two of his three children are doing just fine, he gets no credit for them and takes all the blame for the son.

None of us knows the real reason why Terry left the family setting. It is described as pure lust, he didn't want to be faithful to one woman. Not two years later he is again in a committed relationship doing just that by all accounts.

It probably is worthy of observation, however what you fail to recognize is that by publishing this article, Randall Terry put the focus on himself and opened himself to criticism. And now he's being criticized. How do you think it's unfair that he's coming under scrutiny when he invited it upon himself?

And let's be clear. This story isn't so much about Randall Terry's son as much as it is "How could my son do this to me?"  Pretty self-centered if you ask me.

Thanks for the additional comments. If my son did a $5000 interview in Out and appeared on CNN making comments, I'd certainly put those comments in context. IMO, this is like someone firing a shot across your bow, then observers criticizing you for reacting.

I don't think anyone has given the kid a free pass. But if his father mimic's his child's behavior in some kind of bizarre retaliation, it creates a neverending cycle, doesn't it?

You're being disingenuous. I have little patience for it. You surely don't think Mr. Terry handled this in the most appropriate manner, but you argue as if his response was completely innocuous. Quit being so partisan yourself and maybe you'll see why he's receiving such criticism.
